Types

Hey everyone,

I am working on some research stuff for a class I am taking and wanted to get all of your input on this.

What are the different types of audio/sound engineers out there and what are there differences?

I came across Wikipedia's entry that gave an OK list, but was looking to see what other information was out there.

The ones I have now are Recording, Live, Monitor, and Mastering. I am looking for good descriptions panning 1-3 sentences, and if there are other official types out there, please post them so I can include them.

I stopped doing my own "homework" years ago and I'm not about to start doing someone elses now, but don't forget the film, television and radio industries.

Great, Good, Bad, and "Don't touch that gear or I'll break your damn fingers."

The differences are usually pretty much self evident by the end of sound check.

Lol, I am not looking for someone to do my homework for me, I am just looking for a jumping off point. I figured why go hunting around when I could just go straight to the source. I am just looking to accurately represent the different engineers out there. If there are multiple types of mastering engineers or recording engineers, I want to make sure that they are accurately documented as being separate and not just generalized.

How 'bout this: you write your own descriptions of each type as you understand them now. Post them here. Then ask for critique/correction. Fair enough?

there is also
broadcast audio ... studio and live and post
news gathering audio ... anything goes
film audio ... recording and post

then I guess there is that special sort of audio
church/worship audio

they all start in the same place and have to adhere to the same basic rules
but
then their emphasis becomes very different

There are quite a few specializations in the film industry. Just check out the credits of a film to see how many there are. There's also the internet and gaming industries, as well.
