I'm considering either 2X6 with offset 2X4 studs for my studio walls or just 2X4 construction. Is ther a good resource to conpare the two or does anyone have any suggestions? |

The best I know of is NRC IR 761. It compares over 350 different drywall assemblies for sound isolation. As you go through it, you will realize that there many significant factors in addition to single vs staggered stud.
In looking for what is important, bass frequencies are the most difficult to control. The STCs are not important.
Enjoy!

Personally - I would not loose the isolation gained by 2 aeperate walls by building a staggered stud wall.........
But - in any case - 2x6's at 24" o.c. will give you more isolation in the LF range than 2x4's at 16" centers............. in some low frequencies that could gain you an additional 6 to 8 dB of isolation.
And the high frequencies are pretty much all dealt with once you install the 2nd layer of drywall.........
Hope that helped
(ps - the master handbook is an excellent reference source - I too highly recommend it)
