All that's left are 3 walls and the Tracking Room ceiling framing!
The Hallway/Iso is framed!... the attic access hole is in too!
The mirrored false door in the Control Room is in!
The main wall that Separates the bathroom from the server room is in too!
All that remains is the door headers and wall and the lounge will be framed.
The 2 walls that remain to be done are the short wall next to the mic locker and the big wall for the main beam to rest on. Once the main beam is built, then we'll spend a few days getting the main tracking Room rafters done.

Looking more and more like a real building every day.
How long ago was it that the walls weren't even finished?
Just for an idea of how fast things are going.

Yeah, now that you mention it... it's really only been less than a month ago that the first wall went up. Lemme see... the first wall of the interior went up 3/11. So, in less than 3 weeks, we're almost done with framing! Allowing one more... that's a 4 week turn around on the framing.
The tracking room rafters are going to be a bit of a trick to get right, though. In talking with the framers, the one thing we discussed was the fact that it could be pretty easy to end up with an undulating rafter flow, if we don't take our time and do it carefully.
As fr as the overall costs... Groff, you pretty much hit it square on the head... I'm just thankful that we had the existing building to start with!

Thu Sep 09, 2004 8:35 pm was the first post... so, yeah, this build IS getting a bit long in the tooth!
Sad part is that we started looking at building a studio a couple of years before that, and moved into this place back in July of 2004!
I'm just being hopeful that the light at the end of the tunnel isn't a train coming from the other direction!
There's still quite a bit of hard labor to get done before we can call for inspections...
The plumbers are supposed to be coming in this week to get the initial plumbing in the walls and do the vent stack.
The electrician is supposed to be coming this week to start the electrical rough in.
On the rough news front, one of the HVAC contractors has informed me that the motorized vents on the return ducts are incredibly expensive. He's told me that his cost is $5000 EACH! We're going to be sitting down tomorrow to go over his quote... I gotta see these numbers...

As bad as we need the rain, I'm not all that excited to see it raining today.
The main LVL beam is due to be delivered this morning, and rain is gonna make this a lot less than the fun it was supposed to be.
I spoke to the plumbing contractor yesterday. He came out to the site and let me know that there are a couple of things I need to do before he can prep the plumbing;
* I need to frame in the walls for the shower
* I need to put in a sloped bed for the shower to be built upon.
The framers will be here in about an hour to wait on the beam to be delivered. While we're waiting, I ask them to go ahead and get the short walls in the bathroom done. That way, I can go ahead and get the bottom of the shower done this week and get the plumbers back out next week.
I also talked to the electrician yesterday. He's going to contact the electrical inspector to see if we can save some money by running Romex in the lounge as opposed to conduit.
He's planning on coming out sometime this week to take a quick walk-around to look over everything and make sure we're both still on the same page as far as the rest of the electrical work. We both want to make sure that if there are any surprises, that we identify them ASAP.

Well... the beams made it!
Man, those things are monsterously heavy!... probably upwards of 200 lbs each.
The 2x10 rafters showed up!

The rafters are indeed nailed... and HOW! They are currently only nailed from one side, with about 6 nails per rafter.
They will be nailed in an X fashion when it's all said and done.
The reason we're not nailing them in the permanent X fashion, is in case we end up having to reposition them or make adjustments to their position. With the slope and angle of the beam, we have to be sure that we have a smooth angle of transition with the rafters. It can be easy to end up with a choppy or undulating curve. So we have to remain aware of that fact.
Once we are satisfied that they are in final position, then we'll go back and do the final nailing.

Nope. Your roof is clearly tilted and would anyone who likes right angles unhappy.
However my knowledge of acoustics tells me that right angles are bad news, square ratios are worse and that deflecting things to minimise points of buildup is good.
Hence a curved roof could do you favours and I now think you're happy.
(Either bit of that is sarcasm, I don't know which is the real answer lol).

Yeah, they do undulate across the top pretty bad, it's almost a 1/2" shift overall.
The reason they do undulate, is that we tried to keep the bottom edges as aligned as possible, for as smooth of a transition from any three joists. That will make adding the surface materials as easy as we can... although it's still going to be pretty tedious work to get them on the rafter faces.
The length of the rafters varies pretty significantly between several of the rafters. As well, some of their angles change significantly. You throw in the variances in rafters themselves, and the whole thing is pretty amazing that we were able to keep them as straight as we did.
Today, the guys will go back and double check spacing and relative square... actually that the rafters are 16" OC. Then we'll go back and X nail them into their final position.
Today's plan is to get the bathroom walls done first. That way I can pour the sloping "concrete" pan for the shower this weekend. That way I can call the plumbers in ASAP.
I snagged a 15KVA Isolation Transformer for the tech power. It should be shipping Monday or Tuesday! I expect it to arrive the latter part of next week.
Oh yeah... I forgot that I also have a small platform to build on the rafters, over the Control Room, for the air handlers. I'll know exactly what size once the final dimensions of the units are added to the minimum code size for a work area.
I need to order a bundle or 3 of some rockwool to stuff in between the fire blocking. I found a source in Greensboro, so I'll pick that up along with the concrete stain sometime next week. Probably early Tuesday morning before I meet with a couple of the HVAC contractors.
