Here are some pics of my little basement project studio (still very much in the making). Sorry for the low light in the first pic.

I know it's not a pro studio and will never sound amazing, but I'd still like to get the best results possible. I plan on getting some bass traps and 2" foam squares for the walls, as well as some heavy curtains probably. But before I do any of that, should I move my workstation? To the left (next to the keyboard in the pics) is a broad wall with a couch against it. I could switch the workstation and the couch so that the workstation is in line with a long wall. Is this likely to fix issues with bass? I downloaded an mp3 of a rising sine wave up to 300 Hz and noticed some significant comb filtering problems in the room, so I definitely have some problems to fix.

I was thinking it might be a good idea to move the desk, prop the monitors up on stands and put bass traps behind them.

Thanks for any advice you can give!

I'm sure it could sound amazing given appropriate room treatment.

Thanks very much for the link. Great info! I'm excited to change things around and see what my low frequency response is like after that. I'll look into stopping early reflections too.

How do you like that FireStudio? I just ordered one.

What do you use with it? (Software, operating system ect...)

It's a firepod actually (they look pretty similar Razz) but I do quite like it. For starting out and gaining some recording experience, it's been great. And it'll be with me for a while until I decide I'm ready to upgrade to a more pro-quality rig (but mics and room treatment is my priority right now).

I'm using Cubase SX 3 on Windows XP. The monitors are M-Audio BX8a's.

I'm not totally in love with the recording quality I'm getting, but more and more I'm thinking that's less the fault of the firepod and more the fault of my room...which I've decided is going to get a few large bass traps in key positions and a healthy dose of 2" foam.

Dan, it's a cumulative effect: equipment, room, instruments, knowledge, skills, experience ... a little bit of everything.

Treating the room is very important and very wise and healthy move. Go ahead! Thumbs Up

Keep us informed about the progress.

All the best

Thanks. After a run-in or two with some less than helpful individuals (I'm not naming names), it's good to know there are friendly, helpful people using the forum!

Hopefully I will have time tonight to do some rearranging. I'll mention any improvement I notice...
