i need to do a bass drop in a couple songs that im recording for a band.
im not sure if thats the right term or not but its the sound you hear that sounds like a dropout.
if you could help me and advise me on how to do it i would be greatly appreciative.
thanks!

Are you talking about when they hit the kick, or just at random times?

Not sure what you are referring to. Could you post a short example or mention a song where it was used?

it sounds like everything in the song is overloaded by a big bass boost.
im not sure how its done.
if you go to this myspace and listen to the song "Fast Forward to 2012" there is a bass boost at about the 1:05 point.
if you know anything about them please let me know.

The easiest method would be to use samples. Searching this forum or the internet should yield a few results.

I'm thinking you're talking about augmenting the signal with a sample of some kind. This is sometimes done with an 808 kick drum to give it a big boomy sound. Is that what you mean?

I don't quite get it either. They're just palm muting but letting a few strings ring out instead of totally deadening them.

An 808 doesn't say "smack" by any stretch. And in my previous post I linked to a bunch of subkick samples I personally posted on this very 'board.

It's one thing not to search the forum, which can be a little unwieldy, but not to search the very topic you post in...

Sorry if my choice of smack didn't describe the sound accurately haha. I did notice what you posted I was just mentioning that I actually did a google search and found results myself when I had the same question...? =)
