Do all wireless mice suck, or is it just mine?

Seriously!

My mouse sucks so bad, it's enraging! If I stop moving the mouse, the cursor will start to drift to the left on its own! Sometimes a LOT, sometimes a little, always annoying!

Does anyone here use a wireless/coreless RF mouse that doesn't suck??

Please tell me which one. I'm going to Staples later today and will buy whichever one doesn't suck.

I have 3 of the MS Wireless Notebook 3000 mice. Love'em. You have to have the USB dongle fairly close to the mouse - within a few feet - other than that it's a great little mouse. Very good scroll wheel feel and MMB action as well. Battery life (1 AA) is very good.

I've had older MS wireless non-notebook versions as well - they worked find, but I like these little ones the best. Also, my opinion, the MS "side scrolling" feature sucks little black mouse turds and makes for a lousy middle button/scroll wheel - one reason I prefer this somewhat older (but still available) design to some of the fancier models.

I love my Logitech wireless trackball. No problems from that ever. I like to play with all of my balls. Much better intervention than a stupid mouse.

Tracks & balls the only way to go

I have been using a graphics tablet instead of a mouse for 6 or 7 years now and love it!
It's a little tricky to get used to (it takes a week or 2) but once you get the hang of it you will never use a mouse again.
Unfortunately I have experienced the "drifting" problem a couple of times as well, and I don't think it is because it is wireless (I don't have any wireless stuff) In my case I think it was having the tablet and mouse plugged in simultaneously. If I remember right, simply unplugging it and plugging it back in was the solution.

Well, I gave the trackball route a good try, but never found one I liked as much as a nice mouse. I tried trackballs with finger-driven balls, but never got comfortable with click&drag action. Tried thumb-balls but don't get the precise control I get with a good mouse. I guess my thumbs just aren't good for much.

I have and use a tablet, but for this application, I have to use wireless - no option.

ALso not a fan of trackballs either.

I've used 2 different Logitech wireless mice before (including this one) on 2 different computers both of which has the drift problem.

it makes it a huge problem when you try to move an object only a couple samples and you wind up dragging it 20 seconds to the left.

I bought a cheaper Microsoft wireless about 20 minutes ago.

we'll see how it works.

What the hell kind of problem causes you to HAVE to use a wireless device?

I never have liked wireless of any sort. So much grief with online gaming and it never works out too well for peripherals. I never trust my keyboard anymore and as soon as I can be bothered getting a decent wired one that I like, I will.

The fact that I don't like having my computer in the same physical space in which I'm mixing and it is thus behind me in an acoustically sealed space. When closed, the space allows me just enough room to run out some monitor cables and the dongle for the wireless keyboard/mouse.

For me to use a keyboard/mouse that wasn't wireless and to manage the cables efficiently and safely (not running across the floor but always staying along baseboards, etc.) it would take me greater than 25' to run.

That being said, with the space closed off, my ambient noise level is ~20dB or less. With the door opened, it's ~35-40dB. A sizable difference.

Ah fair enough.
(Hangs head in shame) As I've never been in a recording studio, ambient levels and computer noise doesn't click with me. When I record at the Church I'm always 15m with pews and a whole PA system blasting out plenty of dB to drown out any puny CPU fan.

Although, I fully understand the irritating clock noise everyone hates.

I like wireless in my studio setup because I have two work positions - it's nice not having to drag the wires around when I move from position 1 to position 2. I have no issues with my old Logitech wireless keyboard or my MS mouseseses - two of them sit side by side - I don't run them through the KVM switch that way.

I've got the wireless mouse that Sony gave me with the VAIO system I bought two years ago. No problems at all with it, other than it tends to go to "Sleep" after long periods of inactivity. A simple nudge and it wakes up and is back in biz.

I also use a Wacom pad/tablet that helps keep car-pool-tunnel syndrome to a minimum if the mouse gets to tiring.

Love 'em both. Once a while, though, the mouse does move around a bit on its own, and then I realize that the pen has fallen off the tablet and it's getting knocked around accidently. D'oh! Rolling Eyes

So, how's the new MS one you bought?

I have a wireless at work, the receiver connects via USB, never a problem unless the batteries die.

I forgot to look at the make / model while I was there this afternoon.

If I can remember, I'll do so tomorrow.
