HA!
She's a month pre-mature...
Thought the delivery date was supposed to be May 28th, but she came early.
Now we'll have to wrap her in blankets and plastic to keep her warm and safe from all the rest of the stuff getting ready to go on in the room.... This is gonna be TRICKY! (ESPECIALLY the stain on the floor!) |

O M G!!!
This is some more INSANE news!!
Just started getting pricing on lead sheets... $2700/roll for 1/8"x48"x21 ft long.... PLUS shipping!
...and I need two rolls!?!?
I gotta find another source or I've gotta come up with an alternative... man... the pricing is going WAY up real fast, too! The guy I talked to said it started rising last year and had doubled this year already!
Anyone that knows of a source... PLEASE let me know! |

Thanx for the "congrat's" G... My wife is pretty happy with the purchase.
It NEEDS to be gone through and be tweeked, tuned and voiced.
I'll probably wait until the studio is done.
I'm gonna let it sit and acclimate for a few days before I cover it in packing blankets and plastic. |

Oh man... I KNOW you didn't go there! (HA!)
I seriously doubt that the wife would let me live if she walked out there and saw her piano being used as a walkboard platform.
I can certainly say will be tricky working around it, though. |

Max - I assume you are going to get a serious dolly if you are going to be moving it around the studio. However, if it is really in the way you can put it on its side on a dolly and take the legs off. Move it into the lounge while you are working on the studio. (Well, you may have to hire someone who really knows about moving grand pianos. We had piano specialists move my old (1911) Steinway from my parents farm in NJ down to Blacksburg. They had the equipment and the knowledge and moved a 6' grand around like it was a small bookcase.) |

Bob,
You're right. I do need a proper dolly.
I watched Pro Piano Movers bring it in and set it up... less than a half hour from the time they dropped the lift gate to packing the blankets back in the truck. They ARE Pro Movers!
They have all the right jigs and straps... which makes it look almost effortless.
Now me on the other hand... I'll get a regular piano dolly and pray I don't push it off the dolly!
I've got an insane schedule for the next few days, so I'll be lucky if about all I'll get done is calling for pricing, and maybe get one next week.
Andy stopped by yesterday morning and dropped off a few bushings for holding the romex in place for the electrical outlets. I hope to get all the quad boxes drilled and installed Sunday.
I think I may have to figure out an alternate plan on the door construction sequence.
With lead sheeting being so cost prohibitive, I may only be able to really do 3 doors to start with; the two exterior doors and the Control Room door. Those being the most critical, I might be able to deal with minimal bleed on the lounge, hall and iso booth doors until I can afford to go back and line their faces with lead sheeting.
I know that this is a lot of rework, but the rising costs of materials are starting to kill my budget... ok, they aren't rising... they're SKYROCKETING!
I've started calling for glass pricing. No one's gotten back to me yet. Hopefully in the next few days.
I'm still hunting down some local mineral wool distributors. I only need about 8 bails, so hopefully it won't take too long to locate... I need to get the fire blocking done soon! |

Max,
Here is CT, Home depot - in the masonry dept - has 18" wide sheets of 4 psf in rolls - they are sold for flashing masony work to roofs, etc.
You can use them fine with a seam in the middle of the door - it's what I use........
That will take the shipping out of the equation anyway.
BTW - the place looks great - the piano is beautiful - and how are you doing ojn the HVAC? - you never got back to me on that..........

Rod,
GREAT to see you back in the saddle! (just take it steady and easy... deal?)
Neither Home Depot, nor Lowe's carry lead sheet flashing. The best price I've found locally is for a 3lb, 30x30 sheets for $60/sheet.
Sorry, I thought I had gotten you up to speed on the HVAC issue...
Looking at 2 heatpumps... variable speed. Everything else pretty much as drawn, but sans the motorized baffles. One 2 Ton, one 3 Ton... CR and Server Room on the same 2 Ton, everything else on the 3 Ton. Fresh air vented from the lounge.
Heatpumps are pretty much the norm here, because of the mild winters.
Think that'll be ok? |

Max,
Good to be back - thank for the concern. Deal.
I didn't mean to say sheets - I meant rolls.
The heat pumps should do just fine. Sounds good to me.
Kepp me up to speed - I want to see this work out fantastic for you when everything is said and done.
Sincerely,
Rod |

Down here... NEITHER sheets, NOR rolls are to be found in Lowe's or Home Depot... ARRRRRGH!
I found the 3lb, 30x30's at commercial roofing supply houses, and that's ALL they have. The just don't carry the rolls here anymore... figger's, don't it?
I too want it to turn out... for both of us!
The thing I don't want to do, is get into the short rows, and then start compromising too much, and end up sorry I did so. |

Max,
check with any of your local masonry suppliers in the area - they should carry rolls of this for flashing.
If not - call a couple of masons in the area and ask where they get their lead flashing from locally - someone has to carry it - and the rolls are cheaper than buying sheets.
