hi, i'm new to this site. I am an artist trying to get to the final stage of the project. Everything was recorded in some f the best studios in nashville. I spent several days with a very experienced mixer there and now my masterer is saying the mixes are unacceptable for mastering due to the 'levels being slammed'. W have sent him several 24 bt softer versions and his latest complaint is that 'yes, the levels are lower, but they have been turned down AFTER the peak limiter. We all thought (g. mixer, producer, myself) that the mixes sounded pretty darn good. Is this guy giving me a hard time or are my mixes "distorted, lifeless, no dynamics" with no hope?

(by the way, how do i attach the mix to be critiqued and should it be in wave form?)

Soundclick.com
Get yourself an account there, upload the mix and link to the page here.
Soundclick only lets you post 128kbps MP3s unless you pay - there might be other sites that let you do more.

First, I have to point out the funny:
"I spent several days with a very experienced mixer there"
An experienced mixer? One that's been used a lot then? I get what you mean though.

The purpose of mastering is to apply the master EQ/compression/limiting etc IMO. I'd take that to mean, give them an unclipped track with zero plugins/outboard gear applied other than on busses, auxs and inserts.
Then let them crush it to square waves.

Soundclick is pretty badly organised.

As far as I know you need to go to the account (top right) and add a new band/artist.
Then "add new songs".

You can use zshare to upload your mix for free. You can find it here:

http://www.zshare.net/

It has a 100mb limit though so i'm not sure if it will be enough to upload your mix in .wav format.

Hope this helps and look forward to hearing your mix;)
