Finally got a CD together of a concert 3 months ago, and the lead guitarist has heard it. First thing he noticed? We played a 2 hour gig with one of his strings out of tune (6str electro-acoustic, with the line out used). He tuned it to a definitely in-tune guitar about 5 minutes beforehand, and did something to it halfway through. Maybe the string is going?

I'm happy to retrack and so is he, although it would only be some songs that it sounds worst on, which is no biggie - and this gives me plenty of scope for adding a room mic, running over a few basic multi-tracking setups and I might even get to make a "proper" session out of it, as some songs could do with drums since we have no live drum mics.

Funny how bad things can turn out good, ain't it?

The new melodyne claims to be able to tune chords. So fixing that sting might be possible Wink

I was actually going to ask if it was possible to fix it, but I decided there isnt any logical way to fix it.

How much they chargin for that magic wand? Anything over about $20 and I'd rather retrack lol. Gives me a chance to lower the noise floor of that recording track as well (will be near-zero crosstalk, and the gain structure has improved since then).

300 I think, but if your have melodyne already the upgrade is $129 USD.
I already love the melodyne vst, now to mess with chords too.... wicked.

Ach not too bad actually. Was expecting another zero...

Anyway, I might have found a way to avoid having the radio playing in the background of the track by the time i retrack.

If I turn up *any* channel on the mixer so the gain is at full and PFL it, even if there's nothing plugged in besides the snake, even if the connection is balanced or whatever, I can hear a different radio station on each channel. Good if I want the news and weather during a service, bad if I want high amounts of gain (which is more common).

Dowhatnow?
My knowledge of electronics is probably more so than an average joe but not enough to call it useable...
I always thought it was the unshielded + unbalanced connections that was causing the most interference, then the line ins on the computer let more in, rather than the mixer. Makes sense though.

I'll look into this later, I have to socialise in about an hour or I would go searching for info about ground lifts. I assume it has something to do with the power cable and some (UK) green and yellow striped earth wire?

OK, ground lift solves LF power supply problems, I see it also does involve earth wire, but disconnecting it.
There is actually a hum in the onstage monitors at least, but I'm sure that has something to do with the line feeds to the amp running alongside the extension cord for the desk.

Does it actually help reduce interference and hissing, or is that just cheapo equipment and zero shielding running off 1933 electrics? Good news is the mixer is actually grounded...

Has an electrician been out to look at the wiring yet?

Apparently it was done 2/3 years ago. I think it was extended to some extent back then (which is why it was checked) so proper grounding would have been put in, I imagine.

If the snake and power lead and VGA cable didn't all go through one hole in the floor, I'd be more inclined to blame the power.
