I just finished tracking today. Here's a rough mix. Let me know what you guys would do to improve on this. I'd appreciate it a lot.

Might be personal preference but i'd like to get abit more drums. Might give the track abit more "power" sounds pretty good overall though. |

Yeah, I agree. I'm having trouble with the cymbals. They're Zildjian ZXT's and they kind of sound bad, hah. Not that I should be making excuses. |

Got a lot of boxyness in those drums. and I don't think the cymbal use is the issues here, here's a few things to try
kick - I'd like to hear the source here cause I'm wondering if that's the issue. Was the mic in the kick or outside of it? where's your eq on the kick? To me it sounds like you have to pull out 400hz and maybe some 200hz, use an eq sweep to find the "sweet spot" and boost it up It's also gobbling up all of the bass frequencies and the bass guitar is drowned out, got a leave a frequency range for it
snare - it's dead sounding, tuned badly, sounds like cardboard, it needs some crack to it, pull way back on 200hz and especially 400hz on that one. I honestly think the source is the problem here though, new skins and spend some time to tune them
OH's - pull them back a little and make sure there is no compression on them. A good mix can make almost any cymbal sound good.
Guitars are pretty good here.
I think you've got some source issues here before even worrying about the mix, you'll be fighting it all the way! I like this song though, good job on that! |
