This now depends on whether you're trying to rip commercial DVDs or your own? So, what's the deal?
The easiest method and to maintain full resolution quality, is to simply open the DVD in Windows Explorer. Select all of the VOB files, right drag and copy to another folder on your hard drive. Change all of the " . VOB" files to ".mpg". Voila'!

For converting a DVD to an xvid avi I like to use FairUse Wizard. Works great.

Ripping a DVD to WMV if you want quality results is a different animal. |
