What the hell, this sucks. I'm running on XP, P4 1.8 GHZ, 556mb Ram, Plextor 760A DVD drive, Presonus Firebox. My CPU is only at about 30% when running the DVD player. It was doing the same thing when I played a music CD on it. I can play music on my hard drive just fine, as well as on my old CD burner. I record my own music on this computer all the time and have no problem. I also burn CD's with this DVD burner, and they don't skip when played from another player. I don't understand this. I've googled around some and didn't find anything. Before anyone asks, I have DMO enabled. Thanks for any suggestions.

I would guess a conflict between the Firebox (firewire) and another device, but it could be a driver issue as well. The system and most DVD/CD player apps on Windows will use the MME drivers for your audio interface (most don't support ASIO, etc). Sometimes, with devices other than built-in audio, this doesn't work well.

What is the Firebox/firewire sharing with? DVD drive?

That is physically impossible. There is no combination of Dimms that can create 556 MB of RAM. It's either 512 or 256. If you only have 256MB or RAM, that would explain it for me.

haha, oops. It's 512. I got a little mixed up.

Yeah, I said "DMO" but I meant DMA. Sorry.

What do you mean by "sharing"? What would it be sharing?

I think it's all about the video card at this point. 1.8gHz is alright but certainly not "fast" by today's standards. If you're using software decoding like what would come in Power DVD, that would be a part of it. If you have a low quality video card and have Windows Media Player running with some sort of visual, that can be taxing enough to cause skips or delays in your audio.

Things, I would do.

1: Go to trendmicro.com and scan your computer with housecall. If housecall stalls or fails to initialize, it is likely that you have a virus.

2: Check and see if there are any un-necessary programs running in the background.

3: Make sure windows is fully up to date.
