I've been running a studio for the last three years. I've been working for almost nine years now and although I'm young I've learned a lot in these years running my own studio. I also met a lot of musicians and producers who work with me very often.

The actual real state situation in my country is very complicated and I'm forced to close my studio and get back to home recording for a while. I have the opportunity to mount a little studio at home, where I live with my brother. I have a room where I must sleep and also work.

My previous studio had a big room (4,30m x 8,40m x 6m tall) and I made a couple of big live sessions there (up to 20 musicians). But now I'm using it for smaller projects. Most of the time I do editing, mixing and even mastering. I also do some two or three instruments tracking and/or overdubbing.

As I was telling, I want to mount the studio back home and I'm having some problems deciding wether I will mount a good mixing room or a small mixing room with a small tracking room. I have posted a plan of the rooms in question. ROOM A is my actual room. I can do wathever I want there. ROOM B is my brother's room, he is planning on moving some time from now and he told me I can use that room when he moves out from the house; also I can use that room eventually if needed. The PALIER is like a patio, and I can use it like a little resting room in productions.

My idea was building a little mezzanine on the right hand of the ROOM A. I would put the bed and wardrobe upstairs and a little vocal/instrument booth below. I would apreciate any comments on this idea. I was wondering if a 2,50x3, 2,20m tall booth ould be allright for vocals, guitars and other solo instruments or if you think it would sound like crap.

On the other hand i was thinking that if I can build a really good mixing room i would discard the mezannine and tracking room idea and will use the room for mixing until I have ROOM B available.

I post the details of the three spaces and a detail on the roof and floor. It is an old masonry house, 90 years old construction, wooden floors on ROOMS A and B, walls are 15-30 cm thick. There are neighbours to the right of room A, I'll post details of sound levels soon. Also I'll try to post photos to illustrate.

Thank you in advance
eFe

P.S.: Sorry if there are some grammar errors, english is not my mother tongue.
P.S.2: How can I buy Rod's book from Argentina?

Wht isn't anybody replying? Is there something wrong ith the post? Should I be more specific?

I wanted a couple of opinions based on the rooms's proportions and volume.
Do you think this space is big enough for building a nice little studio? Should I better work here for a short time until I find somethig better?

I would apreciate some coments on the matter.

Seems like the only actual question you asked was how to get Rods book.
You guys have a mail system in Argentina? Buy it online from the States and get them to post it to you.

As for your designs, I have no idea. My common sense tells me that trying to make a studio in an apartment is going to be hard if you want soundproofing.

Also, to design a studio for you around your constraints would take ages. You need to pay someone to do this. If you have some questions, ask them. Don't just make a few statements of intent and expect one of the two acoustics people here to come running.
Space, Rod...
If this is just going to be a blog of your build then yay... Just don't expect people to chime in for fun factor.

So is there anything else I can help you with?

First of all thank you for your reply, I was really looking for an opinion like yours.

Maybe my english sucks but I thought I was being kindly enough. Why do you have to be so rude? If you don't like reading and/or posting in the forums you can simply stop doing it. Maybe you had a bad day, I'm sorry if that was the case but I think you could be more respectful with a person you don't know.

I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but i would really apreciate some comprehension. Does it seems that I'm just trying to build a great studio without spending money? I previously posted that i'm being FORCED to leave my actual locations. Do you think i'm happy with that?

I don't expect nothing from nobody. If I'm not asking my questions the right way you could have just said that.

Seems like one can never be polite enough!

...........

I noticed my post lacked of directions so I posted again trying to be more specific about what I wanted to know. That's why I wrote:

I don't want a specifical answer or a super acoustical design. I want ONLY OPINIONS. I want to know if you people think it COULD BE POSSIBLE to build something as i'm trying to or if you think it would be stupidly expensive.

Thank you all for your time.

Why do I have to be so rude? Because.

Is what you want to do possible? Anything is possible.

Should you do it? That's up to you.

Am I a dick? I'm the only dick who replied to your post...

I'm hurt Rockstar, "he's kind of a dick around here lately".
It's an insult to dicks everywhere. Dicks are useful, I'm not.

As for being respectful with people I don't know. I thought I was, by giving an honest opinion. It may be whack, dickish and rude. But it's my honest opinion...

Anyway, do keep doing what your doing, and post here because I will enjoy reading what you get up to and I will probably chime in for fun. The whole point though, to help you, is to get someone with some actual acoustics knowledge to chime in. Do this by asking more pertinent questions.

Troubled Times.

You want Rod or Avare or Glenn( if he is still listening), maybe Mr. Winer...I know nothing about this stuff.

I do carpentry work for a living...so there.

Actually MadMax is pretty up on this stuff too.
