Rod, I understood that you were comparing to a simple wall. Since I am doubling up an existing 16" stone wall, I'm pretty sure I shouldn't build a double wall because that will make a triple leaf system no? You mention above (and in the book) that I shouldn't use resilient channel either.
In this specific case then, would a light steel frame with two layers of drywall on the "music" side not give the best isolation?
(I feel like I'm being a bad student ) |

Driller,
LOL - nope - in fact you're being a reat student - they are the one's that ask questions and don't assume they got everything figured out.
No - your best isolation would be either wood studs or heavy guage metal framing on the inside wall - and the framing should be at 24" (610 mm?) on center for the best possible LF TL Values.

I'm afraid I'm a stickler for getting things exactly right Rod so I want to know that what I am doing is going to give me the best possible performance. I am aware that this philosophy is not entirely incompatible with studio construction. It's just that there's so damn much to consider!
The same company that makes the RSIC clips makes 1.6mm (gauge?) metal framing so I shall go with that.

D
PS If you ever need any advice on dental construction I hope you won't hesitate to ask! |

I got nothing else
Seriously though, I think it was obvious that I was joking but with all the incredible help Rod and others are willing to give on this specialised subject, one feels the need to offer something in return. I was very happy to make a contribution by buying The Book for example apart from its principle use as a construction/design aid. |
