Sometimes before I add vocals, I like to get the music bed mix complete -- and then layer the vocal into it afterwards ... which is what I'm doing here.

I'm posting the music bed because there's arrangement subtleties that disappear/obfuscate once the main event (the vox) get added, and I wanted to share the instrumental mix preview before the vocals are inserted. I'll post up the final mix later -- for I've already laid down the tracks ... but I hope you enjoy this as an instrumental mix too.

Best,

Kev-

I like the eerie tones and the piano playing that dirty bass line. The hats are crisp and up front. Mostly really cool sounds.
The snare sounds like a side of beef being hit with a soggy napkin. Aiming for this?
The final guitar? sound, the heavily synthesized thing. Sounds kind of narrow and casio keyboardish at times.
Damn cool groove though.

Side of beef hit w/ a soggy napkin? Ouch! Don't hold back G ... Very Happy

Actually, I think you're right. The snare still needs more meat and punch ... and I think it might be a little dry too.

The final solo is a synth lead -- a Roland machine if my memory serves me correct -- it is a little on the cheez squeal side of sound, but it really cuts through the horns and maintains its focus well, so it's a keeper.

I'm about halfway through comping/mixing the vocal track, and anticipate being done w/ it near week's end. I don't have much spare time on my hands these days, so it's tough to get stuff like that done.

I like what the synth is playing, just I also like the horns it's choking Razz

Because the hats are so bright/upfront and dynamic, I would like to hear a piccolo snare, something sharp and crisp.

I tried to add more space and brighten up around the snare to compensate, but I can't change it out for another sound ... because it's a live recording.

The above is first pass w/ the new vocal. I'm not sold on the levels yet, because I can't trust my ears after comping ... then mixing.

I'll live w/ a bit to see how it settles in ...

The snare is better, if I listen to it, it still sounds the same, but in the mix it seems to stand out less. Good work.

The vocals are the best I've heard from you yet. They could slide a bit further back into the mix, but other than saying they're not perfectly bedded I have no tips.
