I am using logic pro 7 and for some reason my audio is not recording stereo. I have a presonus firebox and there is no mono or stereo button on it. It is really frustrating me and I can't figure it out. I cannot pan audio left or right. Everything is centered. |

Hmmm, that is odd!
On each track there should be a button to make the track either mono or stereo. If you don’t even have the button, you may not have the correct type of track created. Make sure that it’s an audio or instrument track. If you're creating a midi track, it probably wouldn’t have that button.
Also, check Logic’s site for updates, or just do a software update on your mac. It should find any updates either way.
I hope this helps!

Assuming you aren't experiencing a connection problem with your device selection in the sound input in the system preferences: the button is a single or double circle icon under the audio meter on the audio channel strip in the Arrange Window. Single means mono and double is stereo.
You also need to assign input 1 and 2 to that channel. |

I tried setting it to stereo but now it seems as if it is only picking up the left side. When I pan to the right it gets softer and eventually turns off the sound of the track. When I pan left it gets louder. Any suggestions? |

That's because you are recording a mono source to a stereo track. It doesn't explain why you can't pan a mono track, assuming that's what you had. You should set up a mono audio track and record from the same source. The result should be a mono track that you can pa n as you see fit. |

Yes, as I said, you're recording a mono source. It will always be recorded mono, and so it should. Your microphone is a mono device, you see. |

Ok, thanks for the help. I'm confused because the track I am recording on is set to mono. Not sure what happened with the panning. Maybe I will contact logic. |

How do you monitor your playback?
Your Audio Channel (in this case, the channel strip for the microphone) should be assigned to an Output Channel (i.e., Out 1-2). Connect headphones to the Firebox interface in the Headphone jack or monitors to the Main Out jacks. Then just make sure you are monitoring the computer output, not the source (line in from the interface).
If you can't pan the microphone channel during playback, then you have a problem I can't figure out. |

Does your "meter" in the output channel show there is a signal in the left and right sides? When you pan do the meters correspond to the sound? |

Turned out to be something either the matter with my presonus firebox or headphones. I tried using my monitors which I haven't used for a while and it panned. For some reason the headphone's (beyer dynamic) or firebox isn't working. I'm guessing its the firebox.
Thanks for all your help. |

Do you use a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter for the headphones? Check that. |

You think it could be the adapter. It use to work... Could the adapter have gone bad? |

I've had them go bad. It's something to check anyway. |
