Depends on exactly how much you want to spend and the quality you're trying to get. You might look into foambymail.com. I've heard both good and bad things about it, but they've got cheap prices and if you're not looking for anything fancy you might just get some eggcrate foam from there and plaster it all over the inside of your closet.
Of course, that's not professional or a real permanent solution, but you might look into it. |

FBM is a waste of money. They're also frauds. So why should anyone sane buy from them when they lie about their products? If someone needs cheap foam, Markertek is a much better choice than FBM. At least their foam does what they claim.

If the background noise is the same in all of them I would probably choose the master bedroom.
Most of the time I have found that bigger is better, but experiment. Clap in the rooms and listen to the echo. Shout different syllables like "ba" or "bee" and listen. If you don't get a nasty slap back, or very tonal ringing, you should be pretty good. |

well actually maybe i need to read more but when tracking vocals, do you want a big room sound? or more of a dead sound to add reverb? i guess ive never really thought about it that way |

Well, you are the you you are writing about in the above. If all you have is a closet, then you have no choice. Call it a silly thought, but if you had a large room to begin with, you would not be asking about treating a closet to begin with.

No matter how you look at it, the bigger the room, the lower the limiting frequency for modal effects. You will want dead regardless. Repeating the answer to your original question, use fiberglass/mineral wool. Itis a fraction of the cost of acoustic foam.

I prefer a big dead room. With small rooms there are shorter refections which comb out more of your frequencies than a large room. (the modal frequencies avare mentioned) Small also means the sound travels less distance from source to wall to microphone, so the echoes have more power, (Power is proportional to 1/d^2) causing more intense comb filtering.
As an experiment I took all the sound baffles I have, and put them in a small room, and they covered most of the wall. It sounded OK. Then I took the same baffles and put them in a larger room. Even though it covered less off the wall, I thought it sounded much better. |
