Depends what you can get. A fellow American may know better, but I'd go for an oil based one, probably butyl rubber. Like a gutter caulk designed to be water proof.
Harder to work with but longer lasting. |

Will you please resize this picture?
If isolation is important shouldn't you add a layer of mass in between the overhead joists beneath the upper subfloor?
You can think of this overhead area just like you would a double wall, 2 leaf construction. The overhead floor is one wall then your insulation cavity is the air and your new constructed ceiling in the recording environment is the other wall. Just look at it with your head turned sideways ;)

I think I follow you Space. What I plan on doing is construction walls about an inch off the walls already there. The new walls will have their own ceiling joists which are separated from the floor joists for the above floor by an inch of air....
Should the walls/new ceiling be made of 2x4, 2x6, or something else? |
