The demo is actually of their product called premaster CD. It's the same software as soundblade without the processing capability. It was pretty loud on the floor and I was using a shotgun mic mounted on the camera recording his voice bouncing off of the screen. maybe one day i'll buy a lav mic for these instances.

Mike,

Have you gotten a copy of PreMasterCD yet?

When you do, please post, I'm -very- interested.

I will post when I get a copy. They said 2 months but at the rate they've been going, could be more like 6.

Does anyone have any news of Soundblade? It's been a while, and some people are desperately waiting for a 4-point, source-destination editor for the Mac. I am desperately hoping this will fill the gap, but where is it?

They are piece mealing it out. I think Soundblade is the next to be released. But true to form for the company, they are very much behind schedule. We are all waiting.

Well, if anyone has more information, rumors, first hand contact with SonicStudio, whatever, I'd be extremely grateful if you speak out.

The only first hand info on what is in the pipe can be found here:

http://www.sonicstudio.com/products/matrix.html

There are some interesting details. Soundblade should have:

- Source-Destination editing
- Edit Fade mode (I sure hope they mean the full Sonic crossfade editor

In other words, the main features I have been waiting for for years.

Meanwhile, I'd be really interested what the MacPros here use to edit their classical accoustic recordings. I have been using Peak 4 for a long time. (Peak 5 doesn't work for that).

I also tried AudioDesk (ie DP), ProTools LE, WaveEditor, Spark. None does a satisfactory job.

Answering myself, I just got some more information from the European distributor, MediArte, in free translation:

"getting closer...

we will likely get version 1.0 for AES in Paris (20th May). At the moment we are (still) in beta.
Soundblade CD will come out as a stereo mastering application including the well-known source-to-destination editing and the Edit Fade module. Audio in/out will be realized through AudioCode via Sonic Studio's Firewire interface or any other interface of your choice (Apogee etc). Delivery will be to any connected CD recorder at maximum speed (hard to imagine for Sonic users) or optionally to DDPi. VST and AU are supported. The multi-channel version will follow later this year with the working title StudioX.

Prices will be around 1300 Euros for soundbladeCD and 3500 Euros for the package including Firewire Interface."

Sounds promising.

Hey Michael, just thought I'd report in.

Recently bought soundBlade v1.2.1, been using it for a few days.

It actually works now ! Not entirely bug free, but totally usable for source > destination mastering thru my analog loop, assembling tracks and burning masters & refs. I don't use many plug-ins, not sure about the stability there.

As an old PT user, been furiously reading the Sonic manual to get up to speed on their editing style, after the initial hump, finding out sB's GUI very elegant and intuitive.

Anyone else?

JT

That's good news. The previous version(s) I tried weren't so stable. It even crashed at AES which made me chuckle. Thanks for the heads up, maybe i'll download the new demo and play around with it for a bit. I was thinking of getting just the DDP version for the DDP clients, but it everything else is working good... might have to make a change.

They (jdg) tell me it's better to run the regular installer, and let it run in demo mode, than to even mess with the demo version which is very buggy.

Hello,

I'm new here. Been snoopin' around and found this forum interesting.
I've been in recording since the 80's and mastering since 1991. Started off with Sonic Solutions and moved on to Merging Technologies' Pyramix, currently version 5.1.

So here are some questions I have for you guys:

Is Sonic Soundblade as powerfull as Pyramix? Pyramix is great, but it is PC based only. If there is one thing I truly hate it's the frickin' PC's. Never liked them, never will. Always trouble.

If I switched back to Mac and purchased Soundblade, can I use my Rosetta 200 as I/O (with FW card) or do I have to purchase a 302/303?

Are there any other Mac based Mastering programs out there that I should look at, like Bias Pro XT 6 for instance?

What Mac is best suitable, is an iMac possible (noise from drive?).
Is it possible to use more than one FW port at once with the Mac? I also have a external Plextor DVD/CD Recorder, which has a FW and USB connection. With my current Dell PC and an FW card (with 3 ports) using more than one FW connection at the same time the Plextor is not recognized by 'CD-Write' or even the PC at all!

Hope you have some answers, thanks!

Have no idea, Mac only user here (except for running PlexTools on our One cheap utility PC). As a Sonic "Classic" user, I'd think migrating to soundBlade would be a natural since you're already familiar with the GUI and the editing style. It's very similar to Sonic HD.

Totally agree.

Not entirely sure, but soundBlade will work with Apple Core Audio based devices. I use mine with a PT 192 I/O interface & Lavry converters.

Peak 6 is good audio utility software, and their new playlist is greatly improved, but I don't use it for actual mastering.

Well, I run sB on my G5 tower. But it also works on my new MacBook with Leopard 10.5.5.

AFAIK Yes.

I also use external FW Plextor CD burners with zero problems. Sonic advises against using USB for burners or Hard Drives.

No problem. A fair warning though, soundBlade has been pretty buggy until the most recent release of version 1.3.

That said, versions 1.2x were entirely usable, albeit buggy, requiring "work arounds". I used these for a year with very few issues.

You can also install the software and run it in demo mode.

You might want to contact Sonic for "official" answers.

Best Regards - JT
