What about Microsoft?<P>Microsoft makes a popular media player and music delivery format called Windows Media. Liquid Audio and Microsoft have teamed up to integrate Windows Media into Liquid Audio's open, multi- format distribution system and services. Fans can get Windows Media files distributed by Liquid Audio on Web sites in the Liquid Music Network. Soon, fans will also be able to access Windows Media files in the next version of Liquid Player. These efforts reinforce Liquid Audio's commitment to offering a wide range of music delivery technologies in its open distribution system. |

Microsoft is "The Beast", "Big Brother", and the root of all evil. They are polluting over eighty percent of the computers in the world with their greed-driven filth. They are working furiously to take away our freedoms on the internet, and only have the interests of "big business" in mind.
Ummm ... yeah, by all means, prune away! |

Hehehe, yeah that's one of the good sites for getting all the latest dirt on Microsoft. I could rant and rave for hours about their unsavory business practices. Every step they take is carefully plotted to screw people out of money. My disdain for Microsoft is one of the main reasons that I got into Linux. IMO, Linux isn't quite to the user-friendly stage yet, but in the next year or two, they're going to be putting the hurt to Microsoft. OEMs will welcome the cost savings, and home users will gladly save the $100-150 on an OS, especially those looking to upgrade from an older version of Windows. Walmart is already selling Linux-based computers!
What about Apple? Take a look at what's going-on with them. They're testing the Mac OS on Athlon-based computers. OSX is UNIX-based. Linux is UNIX-based. So what does that indicate for their future? Given Apple's history of not allowing the mixture of Apples and "Oranges", there's a good possibility that they could manufacture a well-configured product line of "budget" Macs aimed at the home user, either running the MacOS or possibly Apple's own new version of Linux. This is total speculation on my part, but logically, given Apples' dire financial state, this sort of a plan would make sense for them. They'd finally be able to sell a computer that could compete with the price of peecees, therefore being a much more attractive alternative to Windows-based peecees. They would then be in a position to do serious damage to the big home and SOHO peecee manufacturers such as Dell and Gateway.
Is this Apple's plan? Who knows? I'm just reading between the lines, based on what I know about their current, known testing. However, Apple has had a history of making very poor decisions with their product line, so it's very possible that they may not see the obvious, or choose to ignore it, and deliver yet another lame horse in the eMac / Cube / "New" iMac tradition. Time will tell. |

i'm not a microsoft fan per se (i use macs & linux primarily), but they do some things well. i'm just worried about their whole DRM (palladium) project. i really hope consumers reject it.
also, SOS, i don't know that apple's in too much financial trouble, but they are having production issues that they'd better get ironed out fast. it'll be interesting to see what they come up with in the next year. |
