Hi all im a location sound guy and former music studio engineer.IM looking to find some detailed information on the complete audio/video/film process from syncing up dailies etc thru to exporting omfs etc right down to layback. If any one has any links or book references or could be bothered doing a 101 for me that would be appreciated...I do have 12 years location and studio experiance and about 40 music for film/video score composing credits so maybe a its a 102 explanation im after. Also are there any newsgroups like rec.arts .movies sound. prodution for post production audio
thanks Ant Nevison |

For some entertaining reading, you could try Yewdalls "The Practical Art of Motion Picture Sound"... really amusing read, filled with personal stories.<p>For some more technical and applied glossaries and descriptions of different post-production scenarios:<p>http://www.henninger.com/resourcecenter/<p>A very exhaustive try at explaining various methods of synchronization in post-production:<p>http://www.magic-marmot.com/html/PSM_sync.htm<p>Probably you already know this one, but if not, a more general resource site for film sound is:<p>http://www.filmsound.org/<p>A really really good discussion group about location & post film sound is:<p>http://www.recordingartsforum.com/<p>(Actually that last one is a MUST, because it mixes a great crow of both location & post crews, and they always bounce back and forth ideas and topics).<p>OK, hope this helps a bit, if you have specific questions about some areas, feel free to come back and ask, but really for a 101 or 102 a book is not enough .<p>Cheers,
Andrei |

Aw, Rick, ya caught me - Not only do I lie about everything (in fact, I'm lying about lying) but I'm so freakin' old, I have the morning paper delivered right to my bedside table - If I can't find my name in the Obit column, I figger it's OK to get outa bed - otherwise, why bother... Steve |
