"Orlando" Because the films' setting spans several centuries but the music has a timelessness that's appropriate without being of a particular period.
"Local Hero" Mark Knopfler has a great score here that compliments the emotions of this film. The closing scene and credits music is really moving.
"Raging Bull" The fight scenes (of course) and the fact that there always seems to be music bleeding in from somewhere in every scene from a neighboring apartment, open window, TV or radio in another room.
"Oh brother where art thou" Just gotta love this... and how 'bout that Grammy! |

The original score by Hans Zimmer to the movie "Thin Red Line", Peter Gabrielle's work on "The Last Temptation of Christ", Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story", and finally "The Magnificent Seven". Oh yeah and "A Hard Days Night". |

Dr. Zivago and Lawernce of Arabia -- Maurice Jarre
The Forbidden Planet-- first electronic score - circa 1956 --- Electronic Music: Louis & Bebe Barron
Wasn't the helicopter scene in Apocalypse Now 'The Valkyrie' overture by Wagner???
Still Crazy --- a brilliant use of music, the subtle difference between an ok track and a great track of the same song is used to great effect in this movie. |

You guys already listed some of my favorites already!
Planet of the Apes (original of course)by Jerry Goldsmith. How cool was that score!
Almost anything (not the name of a movie) by Henry Mancini
Nino Rota (felini films) I think that's his name
Blade Runner by Vangelis That music really "fit" the film
Barbarella by Charles Fox and? Campy and 70's ish (or was it the late 60's)? That's where the name "Duran Duran" came from.
The Great Escape (Goldsmith?)
I usually only notice the music when it is BAD,
or after some really memorable themes like Dr. Zivago, or the big Spielberg/John Williams films i.e. E.T, Star Wars (Lucas), Indiana Jones. You don't forget those themes.
The early James Bond Films.
I'm a fan of Danny Elfman. His stuff is always fun and quirky.
Woody Allen always has great music in his films.
Baghdad Cafe,
The Godfather
Secrets and Lies, lots of Cello, very sparse and moody. Really worked in the film.
Dead Man, pretty sure it was Neil Young, great acoustic guitar.
That's probably enough from me, I'm sure there's a lot more, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. |

Baghdad Cafe,
| Great choice there. Henry Mancini? The Pink Panther!!!!
And Baghdad Cafe? What a great little movie that is. Vangelis, Fellini - very
But tell me, 'cos I have a REAL problem with this.
"Star Trek" is the closest I come to much needed counselling (a long story...partly to do with the fact that my "official" status here is that of "alien"). The new series...Enterprise. The actual score in the series is quite cool. But that opening song???????????????????????????
Julian suggests that I turn the volume down when it comes on. But I know it's there, and as I've said, what if I accidently hit the volume control on the remote? This song, why it is there, what were they thinking, is more of a mystery than any galactic species that they come across. Sorry to "dump" like this....It's not as though I wasn't disturbed enough as it is........ |

Gee... Where to begin... Many have been covered already. I think it is easier to discuss composers, though.
Jerry Goldsmith is probably my favorite film composer (that is still living). His scores to Planet of the Apes, Rudy (one of my all-time favorites), Star Trek, and others are classics.
Elmer Bernstein-- Another class act. Magnificent 7, 10 Commandments are of course classics, but also To Kill a Mockingbird, Rage in Harlem, Walk on the Wild Side, and others...
Danny Elfman has done some cool ones... I have liked his quirky style since Oingo Boingo.
Basil Polodoris (sp?) Conan... need I say more?
I think many of Hans Zimmer's have been good. I particularly like his Gladiator Score (even though he steals from Holst and Wagner).
Bruce Broughton- Silverado. Great horn line in the opening title.
The old composers like Max Steiner, Nino Rota, Miklos Roza, Bernard Herman, Alfred Newman....
This is enough for now... |

In "bladerunner" (the recently released directors cut), had way too much high mids, it ruined the soundtrack, anyone want to take a guess at what went wrong? And No!.. I didn't do it!
