John Lurie's scores are pretty interesting. Down by Law, Blue in the Face, Get Shorty.
The Shining creeped me out.
Psycho. The original of course. Although the end of the remake featured some great stuff from Bill Frisell.
Tom Waits: A Night on Earth. Haven't heard the score to One From the Heart but I heard it's pretty good. |

Here are a couple that used great songs throughout, not scored music-
Harold and Maude- Cat Stevens (awesome offbeat movie from the mid 70s)
Trainspotting- Lou Reed, Brian Eno, etc
You guys have named many of my favs, but here is another offbeat pick-
Raising Arizona
The theme song shows up throughout the movie, and in one hilarious scene in a supermarket it is actually the muzak playing in the background!

Mike Figgis - Leaving Las Vegas
This score really 'fits' the film. And Sting jazzes (I would say rocks, but in this context that might not 'fit' )
Rob
PS Sorry to drag out this old thread, but I just had to mention this (I was surprised no one else did) |

I am totally in love with the "American Beauty" score - it's haunting, ethereal and totally breathtaking, even without the plastic bag visuals.
My other all-time fave has to be "The Mission," a Morricone classic. |
