We are in the process of setting up for surround. We have and M+K set-up and the Adgil routing matrix box.

Now, we are doing tv only, and have not been very succesful in finding out exactly what else we need. Do we need a nbass managament system, etc.

If anybody has any help or recommendatuions, please let me know.

Mark

I cant help you with the hardware Mark, sorry, but there is a lot of white paper info at the Dolby site, hope this link helps find some answers, it would seem the last thing Dolby would want is difficulty managing their process.

Mark,
How is Vancouver and your Fairlight? As for the M+K speakers you should use a bass management box. However the M+K box crosses over at 80hz on paper, see if you can get it to crossover a little lower. As for TV, get the mix right down to 70hz or so and it will come off great. Are you going to be EQ'n the M+K speakers? Are they going to be your "Big" speakers? I would sugest you get some good room eq's and put in a "X Curve" on them. There is a picture on my website of a room of ours (my friend Peter Cole) at Pirate Post that has the M+K's with room EQ, and they sound great!
Take Care,
Marti

Henchman,

Your question confuses me a little bit.
Bass management is taken care of by the Adgil /and or the Dolby system.

Here's our setup, you can refer to it for building your system.

Monitoring:
Front: 3x LSR 32
Rear: 3x LSR 25
Sub: 2x LSR 12

These monitors are (and should be) all seperatly fed by the multimax (in your case the Adgil)
The Multimax is fed by the DAW (6 or more discrete channels out)

When working for TV only, you will need a Dolby DP 562 and a DP 563. (or the analog SDU4 & SEU 4)
You will have 5 (or 4) discrete channels going out of your DAW (or mixing board) into the the Dolby Encoder.
You should monitor the Encoded/decoded signal out of the Dolby Decoder.
So you will be able to hear what the encoding / decoding process does to your product.
That's when you will hear the Dolby bass management working.

In our case we have splitted the analog & digital signals.
Multimax is only for (analog) monitoring purposes.
We can monitor every step in the process, from discrete out, to encoded/decoded, stereo- or mono mixdown, tape returns, production channel, etc ..
We are routing the digital outs of the DAW directly towards the DA-98 / Dolby DP563 / Timecode DAT / ADAT / Betacam / Whatever.

The first time you route a signal through the LSR encoding/decoding process, you will have a ton of questions and frustrations.
I will gladly borrow my sholder for you to cry out.

Surprised)

Fredo
