About Ensoniq ASR-10 sampler...

Hi!I have an Ensoniq ASR-10 sampler and I want to upload sample sounds from the ASR-10 library CD-ROMs. I haven't any external SCSI CD-ROM reader, and like I needed an external SCSI CDRW I bought HP 9600se (I know it isn't a GOOD CDRW, but... It reads and records anything, the problem is the SCSI commands) praying it will work with ASR-10 too.The ASR-10 give the error: "File Open Error". I'm waiting for a SCSI terminator device, but I think the problem is that... but can be. Can't it? The CDRW's busy light blinks and CDRW responds to ASR-10, but I only get that message.If you know any modern CD-ROM reader that supports(

Or a scsi cable for that matter.Anyway, I would wait for the scsi terminator before tossing the thing out the window. Not terminating tends to make devices do things like that.The 9600se might support internal termination, but the manual doesn't say. And if you can't access internal termination options from ASR10 software, it doesn't matter anyway. Look around and see if there is a little switch like the one on Iomega drives. Maybe that is all you need to turn internal termination on.HP documentation sucks, in case anyone from HP is watching. I have yet to hear of a CDRW that works with ASR-10--the known drives that work are Sony 1x and 2x, Chinon 435 and 535, and Toshiba 2x, 3x and 6x (phew, that was a dusty memory!-I worked for 10 years at Ensoniq doing technical support over the phone. . .) There are rare occasions where other dives will work--I personally have a Plextor that works (not very well known in the US.) Thanks for your help...I forget to say something... I have an Iomega Jaz drive that is incompatible with ASR-10, but it has internal termination that works even when the Jaz is "Off".. It only has to be plugged to the power source. So, I've tried that and all still the same..Genious at Work, I'm from Europe and here Plextor is very well known.. Wink

)) What is the Plextor model you're using with ASR-10?Ang1970, You are totally right! HP documentation sucks!!!! As a +- coclusion of what I have said above, I think the cause of this problem isn't SCSI termination but probably incompatibility with this CDRW. Thanks Wink

So, I've tried that and all still the same..Once again, from the dusty archives of my previous life (and certainly models change over time. . . ) Very early Jaz worked with ASR-10 (Ensoniq was actually involved in beta testing of the drive.) Iomega changed something (don't ask me what)that rendered the later 1 gig Jaz incompatible with ASR 10 (as a side note, I even had a customer with an old drive who complained to Iomega about a trivial aspect; they replaced his mechanism, rendering his cartridges unreadable!)Towards the end of my tenure with (EMU)Ensoniq, I heard reports from users that the 2 gig Jaz seemed to work (take it with a grain of salt; I was never able to personally verify it. . .)>I'm from Europe and here Plextor is very well known..

Howzit!I've got an ASR-10 and although I thought you couldn't hook a CDRW up to it via scsi.. I can tell you that SCSI termination is a must.thats all :p djp
