Just wanted to note the passing of Mike "Smitty" Smith, the original drummer w/ Paul Revere and the Raiders. He died last week at the ripe old age of 58. The Raiders were THE MOST UNDERRATED ROCK & ROLL BAND EVER! They should be in the R&R Hall of Fame.....Smitty was soo very cool and funny and a terrific drummer. My Jr. High rock band won a local Battle of the Bands (I was 13??) and the prize was $50 plus a three song opening slot for PR&R at a local high school. It was the night I "got" the sex part of "sex, drugs and rock and roll" when the Raiders came out with their skin tight tights (and no underwear). My date (we'll call her Gloria) was so wet you could see it through her pants.....Anyway...Smitty...I'll miss ya'! |

I love The Raiders! My band is working on a punk rock take on "Just Like Me". We thought about "Kicks", but decided that song is sacred. |

And they played themselves in an episode of the Batman TV-series. Outfitted in 18th century uniforms! Very cool, very cool.
/Mats |

Yep, I remember that show they hosted on Saturday afternoons...giving away Vox guitars and amps as prizes. Geez...why don't they have anything like that now?
I wouldn't see any problem with doing "Kicks"...no better tribute.
58? Geez, the clock's tickin' ain't it? |

Guido:
Glad you noted the passing of "Smitty".
As the ultimate Raider fan, I can say he was one of the most innovative pop drummers in history. And the aiders were awesome musicians, something that was overlooked because people couldn't see past the stage personas.
RIP, Smitty.
Slappy |
