How's about a mastering forum? That's one thing I havent seen much. So many of us are doing basic mastering that a resource would be very appreciated. Maybe Brad would be into it? Hmmmm, just a thought.

Ah, it's a good idea though. Maybe web audio will have a different take on things regarding the mastering process. We all know it's going to be growing.
I've been thinking about this for a long time.
No doubt the "golden ears" are going to shoot this down at first.
It's a given that a second ear is the best route for mastering but still, A forum on mastering would be cool and could be very beneficial for us.
I guess the forum would be more suited in DAWworld because DAW users are more apt to doing their own mastering.
I've set a mastering forum up for awhile... Let's see what happens.
I doubt a mastering guru is going to share his secrects here but ya never know. Wink It's a great place for a guru to tell how and why one should get a second ear and why we should spend the extra money to get a pro to do the mastering.
Who could we call?
Cool

please, let's NOT make the emphasis how to make a better sounding mp3...
as far as moderator choices, why not start at the top and bug Bob Ludwig? Wink
and i'm also for leaving the category here as opposed to DAWLand, as even the home masterererrer could use 1/2" 2 track and a standalone compiler/burner with other outboard gear...yesno?

"I doubt a mastering guru is going to share his secrects here but ya never know"
--Bigtree
How about qualified mastering people having their own space for their discussions,(password required), issued by invitation, and the (I am not worthy) pests, like me, able to read only.
Just a suggestion,
--Rick (active member)

The problem with that premise is what makes a mastering engineer worthy? I do inexpensive mastering projects for bands and artists on a budget. I've been mastering for about three years and recording for over thirty. I don't have any national selling artists or albums (CD, Cassette, Vinyl, etc.) to my credit. I do have product out there that sells regionally and a couple of CD's that are getting international airplay but still on a small scale.
So without a mega-buck mastering system, none can learn from we-are-not-worthy's like me? You never know, I might have had a good idea at one time in my forty year musical career....

"No one can learn from we-are-not-worthy's like me?"
--GZsound
It would be the candor of the conversation that would interest me, not directed to a 1000 posts on house curves, compression, and EQ.
"We have a VIP room, password entry only"
--Bigtree
Than it is possible, are there some girls in there?

"The reason everyone is here is to share and help others make a better sounding product"
--Brad Blackwood

This is a place where the "brain surgeon" can talk with another "surgeon", about the paliscledren attachment he performed this morning, without feeling obliged to recommend a nearfield mastering monitor. NOT AT ALL am I suggesting that you or anyone else would not qualify. Just want to observe from a far, like birdwatching.
I do hope you understand me,
--Rick

If Mr. Blackwood would do it I think He'd be a great moderator. His posts on RO, and other places (wink wink) are always useful. He's seems to really care about what he does and passing on the knowledge he has.
