Project Studio Monitors

Hello,
I really need a decent pair of active monitors just to get a good mix, but what should I get that's INEXPENSIVE? I've looked into the Event PS6's.. but they're rather costly. Do you guys have any recomendations?

I like my Alesis Monitor Two's. Good mids, not too overhyped highs and a good bass response...

Try them out.

Check out Dynaudio Acoustics BM6.
Not too expensive, not tiring for the ears, beautiful highs.

KRK V88's kick A*@#! And they look cool too. Nice bottom end and crystal clear up top. You may have to move your mix position back a little because they are quite large but it's well worth it. Your mixes will just open up and bite you in the butt. What more could you ask for......

I generally believe you get what you pay for. It has been my experience that “pro” monitors that sell for under $1000 are not very accurate. Others will argue, sorry about the toes. You may find that buying a good set of consumer speakers for about the same money ($200 - $500) will at least allow you to hear what the end user will hear and will be no less accurate as low end “pro” speakers. Polk makes some nice bookshelf speakers that are clean in the mids and have good low end.

Despite of what you may read on these forums, I suggest you try the Mackie's HR824... I've been working with them for about two years now, and I can only say good things about them, since all my mixes translated great to other systems, including Dolby cinema's, Hi-end HI-FI, TV, consumer audio.... Many people here aruge about them not being accurate, or overhyped in the lower-end... To tell you the truth, they can sound like crap - if they DO what they are indended to do, - than it's the right thing ! And, as a matter of fact, they sound quite well and do the job fine too... :)Dynaudio BM6a's are also GREAT, but I don't have as much experience working with them as I do with the Mackies, so I can't be quite objective in the comparison... They DO sound very transparent and detailed... Well hope it helps Smile

I just bought a pair of Event TR5s...they sounded better than the KRK V6s i was planning on buying. the TR5s were dead...there wasn't anything noticeable that they added, like the other monitors i tried out did (some were very airy, others had too much bass). excellent price, too. worth checking out.

The Event monitors are a pretty good sounding pair. I have tried a lot of monitors in the 24+ years of doing this and a friend of mine Dan Huff turned me on to these guys. Take a look at the Audix PH5's, they sound great and are very flat and true. At 299.00 list and with power you can't go wrong.

Check it out.

I use the 1A, PH250 (which they don't make any more) and the N-20. After using Genelec, Event, JBL, Yamaha and more I have settled in with these guys. Just another choice for you to check out.

If I were you I would go with Dynaudio BM5 or BM6´s. A Cheaper option would be the Monitor Ones, from Alesis. I like them. You need to get accutomed, but translate quite well. A little hyped around 60hz. Talking about hyped, HR824´s....
