Hi all,
I know it may sound a little silly but what I want to know is:
When you listen to say a mp3 song in Lo fi does that mean that a song could still be a stereo file but it is changed to mono for LO fi. Will a mp3 song played in Hi Fi be played in stereo. I have not got a high speed line yet to check a Hi fi mp3 file, so would like any info on the above before I invest in a high speed line.
Many thanks,
Allan |

Hi Allen,
It all depends on whether the creator of the mp3 file has encoded the song in stereo or mono., You could encode an Mp3 in low bitrate , but still keep it stereo (even for the 56k user) or you could encode an audio file at high bitrate and make it mono ... its all possible. But a mono encoded file will always be mono . broadband connection or not.
greetings, dokk |

If you are talking about mp3.com then there the HiFi versions have to be stereo 128Kbit or the server will not accept them. Then the lofi (mono, ?? kbps) version is automatically created.
Hope this helps,

Hi Keijo,
thanks for your info,I forgot to mention that it was about mp3.com. I uploaded a mp3 stereo file to mp3.com in 128kb and when listening in Lo-fi it is in mono, do they actually convert your stereo file into a mono file at there end for Lo fi? Has anyone encoded Qsound into there stereo mp3 file and uploaded to say mp3.com (Qsound is a software that expands the stereo file beyond the speakers)
Why I am asking this is that I have Qsound and wondered if it would make much difference when it is played back in Lo fi. I do not want to try uploading a song with qsound encoded to mp3.com yet, until perhaps someone hopefully can advise me if it will work and or if mp3.com accepts such a file. I have not contacted mp3.com because they take way way way too long to answer any questions.
Many thanks,
Allan. |

I use Qsound m'self as a plugin sometimes and for playback also...and know some of the people there and they might have all the info you desire, they're really a good bunch and will find the answers if they don't already have em. I'm not sure if it has an impact on a mono track, or if it requires the properties of the stereo signal
to incorperate it's effect...curious to know the facts though, please post the results of ur search, I'm sure it'll be informative.
hope this helps

Hi Mike,
I actually have the Qsound bundle which includes Qexpander, Q123, and Qcreator. I use Logic audio and Wavlab. What I found out last night was this,, I used qexpander as a plugin on a full stereo live worship with the congregation, (really effective), then I bounced the stereo file and saved, replayed the new file with the Qexpander embedded, the effect still there, then I put the new file into wavelab and converted to a mono file, result, no Qexpander effect when playing back, So then I tried to use the Q123 on the mono file in Wavelab (Q123 plugin is mono in stereo out) But Wavelab freezes. So I put the mono file back into Logic Audio and used the Q123as a plugin, it worked, saved the file and listened thru my monitor speakers, the stereo image is there but understandably not full stereo. So the conclusion I believe is,, If you upload a stereo file with Qsound added, playing back in Hi fi it will work, (I have not encoded to mp3 yet) but as MP3.com converts your stereo file to mono for Lo fi you will only hear it in mono with no effects. So uploading a mono file with Q123 embedded will defeat the object because when you listen in Hi fi it will still be a mono with some stereo effect. I also looked at the SRS Wow sound, (the one that is included in Media player),I went to their site and the demos in mono and stereo are really brilliant, but the cost to use and licence their software is very expensive, Mike, have a listen to SRS demos and let me know what you think! Double click on SRS logo in medea player to get to their site. Sorry about this long e-mail trying to explain.
