Hi all!
I've got a titanium powerbook which I use heavily. Because I do alot of traveling and location work I seem to have gotten more and more used to using the trackpad. However, now, for the last few months the metal "frame" has started to loose it's paint, especially where my hand sits for most of the day. But even worse; around the edge where I never touch the paint looks like it's gonna come off pretty soon, just like when a car gets corrosion...! I knowit's not corrosion, but just a shit paintjob, nevertheless; it looks really bad!
Has any of you had this problem and did you consult anybody at Apple with it?
I personally think Apple should fix mine up!

wow... just like a Korg... lol.
if you have the full warranty I'm sure they will replace the case. if you don't try a little 500 grit with some silver Krylon...
just a joke... |

Same deal - TiG4 (550), year and 1/2 old: The paint has chipped where my hand rests above the CD slot, and beside the hinge/screen release button. I'm not broken up about it - I've done more damage to my horn(s) and their lacquer with my acidic hands. This is only cosmetic: were it detrimental to the functionality of the laptop, I'd be more inclined to gripe... |

my G4 400 still looks great, but the shine has gone, and there are some schratches beneath...., i am using a wireless logitech trackball instead of trackpad. i work faster with it and i can put it anywhere. just an idea.... |

You have all stumbled upon the reason Apples newest Powerboks are made of aluminum instead of titanium. A) Titanium flexes too much when used in such a thin application, causing internal disk problems for some people when the machine is moved while the hard drive is spinning. And paint doesn't stick too well to a surface that flexes.
B) It's a bitch to get paint to stick to titanium at all.
There have been complaints of flaking paint jobs all over Mac user forums. And I have yet to hear of anybody getting Apple to repaint their computers.
I think you're on your own. How about a nice flame-job? |
