Audiosuite Strangeness...

When I try to use the preview button on an audio suite effect such as 4 band EQ on a stereo track, I only get to listen to one of the channels and only in mono... I’ll try to explain...I recorded a stereo audio track from my sampler which had lots of drastic pan automation (for SFX purpose). I wanted to apply some 4 band EQ to it using the Audiosuite plug so that I could print it to disk EQ’ed. The problem is that when I have the preview button selected on the EQ panel, I only get to listen to one channel (I think -left side only). The two selected regions (L & R) have all that hard panning going on and it plays back as it should, but, if I try to preview my EQ settings, the result is that the sound cuts in and out as it’s only previewing one side side of the stereo track but in mono! When I do finally hit the “process” button it does in fact print the equalization on both sides of the stereo selection. Makes it very difficult though to get a sense of what's really going on if you cant hear the damn thing in stereo before you print it. Maybe it’s a preference thing... I donno Sad

Are audio suite plugs mono only? If so would I have to go through all the trouble of having to split the stereo track into two mono files and process them independently?I normaly just use the RTAS plugs and sparingly at that because of the style of music I compose.Very confused right now.Thanks in advance for any help on this problem.dk

Hi Butterhead,I've noticed this problem too. I think the problem is that the audio suite plugs have not yet caught up with the new stereo tracks introduced in version 5.1. I haven't tried this out with version 5.1.1 yet though so I don't know if they've fixed it.A simple work around is simply to process (print) the effect and then if you don't like it just hit undo. Not as elegant as it should be but at least it works.Greg

Hi, Perhaps if you set the EQ up in the mix window as a real time plug in, soloed the channel(s) in question, and eq'd them to taste. You would then know what eq settings you like on that particualar sound and would be able to set the audiosuite settings the same in order to print to disk. When your done, just take the real time eq off that channel. Hope this helps!note of interest: PT doesn't actually deal with interleaved digital audio, but rather breaks it down into 2 mono files on its own(one for left, one for right). If you look in your audio files directory you will see what I mean. If you really wanted to, you could import these mono files as tracks and process them independantly. Not terribly important, but just a FYI.-Chris
