What are the downsides to buying, say, a PT Mix system from a "non-authorized" Digi dealer?
For instance, I see them a lot on ebay and they claim the box is unopened and unregistered (blank registration card).
Obviously, Digi wouldn't like this as these dealers generally undercut the "authorized" dealers, but has anyone done this and had problems registering it because of that? |

Hi,
When I was buying my MIX system, I actually buy cheap Session8 with broken 882. I've repaired 882 for $400, registered stuff and upgraded to MIX for half the price, still having 882
So, it works, you can buy from someone, but you have to register with digi, and that costs $100 for the item, I think, so makes no sence with cheap plug-ins.

If the boxes have never been registered then as far as Digi are concerned there shouldn't be any difference. If the boxes have been registered then Digi will allow you to transfer the registration.
Greg |

I've purchased from DigiDog27 as well. No problems at all here either.
There was one issue that I feel was really Digi's fault. I bought an Access Virus TDM from him that was from a promo pack for a Mix+ system. It had both authorization disks, and he simply included the promo CD as an installer, and filled out a registration transfer. The price was VERY good by the way. Digi wouldn't transfer the registration for it, and informed me that promo plugins where not transferrable. He says that in the past, Digi has told him that these could me transferred, and that he should simply put 'Mix Pack Promo' in place of the serial number on the transfer form.
In an email to Digi I pointed out that NOTHING on their web site indicates this. What's more, the page tauting the promo calls it a $xxxx value where $xxxx is the full retail value of boxed, transferrable software.
They tell me that they changed their registration page to clear this up, but you read it and tell me...if it says that promos aren't transferrable, it must take a lawyer to read that into it.
But in any case, I found Digidog27 very good to deal with.
Tom |

Hi Tom, man it's been a long time! How are you? Good info, thanks. Fine print eh. I know guys have been doing this for years it seems.

The virus is really cool. I'm looking forward to more stuff like that. Whats the bruno res like? It's been awhile since I had time to look over the plugin scene but bruno res sticks in my mind as something to be desired.
How is the Protools Plugin Preset Co-op. doing?check it out
You and I were talking last year about this time. time flys eh.
all the best |
