For that amount of money you can get yourself a real UA/UREI 1176 compressor/limiter, an industry standard.

I love my 3 of them

I presume the ua stands for universal audio?

Ya know, the days of a simple straight forward answer to a open question like yours are gone. There are just too many good ones on the market to suggest anything specific. If you got 2G's, then just about anything in that price range is going to be able to do a good job. Your going to need to narrow down they type of comp along with if you want colored, non colored, tube, FET, VCA, hard, soft, ect...

AudioGaff, is absolutely correct! There are so many different flavors in the price range/budget that you are speaking of, you really need to know what kind of flavor you are looking for. All compressor/limiters are the same but different. Very much like the difference between men and women, Caucasians and African-Americans, Latinos and Asians, etc.. There is no best, only differences. Maybe you should narrow down your purchases to the 3 basic different units as AudioGaff has indicated? Then you would have a number of different flavors to choose from for your tracking/mixing. Now that makes a lot of sense!

Eanie, meanie, minie, moe, catch a compressor by its knee. Dammit that doesn't rhyme?!?!

Im looking for something that doesnt give "too" much color.
Id really like to be able to hear the true tonal qualitly of my tracking and not lose so much of it during compression.
These are the compressors I have expierence with: Manely Vari Mu,,,great for almost everything---I love the unit, but its just not clear enough for my acoustic guitar "too much color".
Art Pro Vactrol,,,for the money,,,it works darn good,,,,but its also not clear enough for my acoustic guitar.
Presonus Eureka,,,,,,"would any body like to buy this unit.
Last but not least (dont laugh) Aphex Expressor----believe this or not----this solid state unit sounds "extremely clear",,,,I picked it up on e-bay,,,with no manual,so I really dont know if its FET,, VCA etc..
I ran some acoustic tracks through it (with alot of finger picking),,,I must say I was amazed at how unsquashed the tone was.
I know its not a class A comp,,but its works well.
