Hi there..

I'd face a big problem while doing Live Recording on Cubase sx3.

My stuff:
PowerBook G4 1.5, RAM 1.25GB, Firepod ,Cubase sx3

Routing:
Record from analogue Mixer.using ballance jack from i/o (insert) to Firepod thru firewire to PowerBook.

Setting on Cubase:
audio buffer size -> 64 samples
audio priority -> Very High (record live in wave file)
lower latency checked
6 tracks at once
contrain delay compresation ON

my problem:
when i record in 24bit,sometime were facing latency problem...example: 4 of the tracks were on time but other 2 tracks were out of time (means not snap with the recording timeline guide)

besides, sometime also facing Click or Crackle sounds...

after that,i've change the setting to record in 16bit,so far for twice i've done were smooth and no disturb...

May any EXPERT can give me some advises to solve my problem...

Thanks...

Ray

You don't need to be an *expert* to know that 24-bit requires more disk space, more throughput and more processing power to get to disk.

Your problem is the buffer settings you kindly posted.

You don't need a 64sample buffer, or lower latency, unless you are monitoring through the software. If you are wanting to monitor at all, the Firepod will probably have direct monitoring. Run cables back from the Firepod to the next 6 channels on your desk.

Those lower latencies require more processing power, which your computer does not have. Hence the clicks, crackles, and dropouts. The other possible cause of this is the disk speed, in which case a firewire external disc on another bus will be required. Try this first. You don't need to wait for a band. Just chain any sound source (MP3 player, etc) into 6 tracks and leave it running.

Set your buffer to 2048 if you want (it doesn't matter), uncheck lower latency, leave audio priority at very high, and job done. I am not sure what the last thing you posted was - I use v2 - is it plugin delay compensation? You don't need that checked either, but I am not sure if it uses extra memory. Probably.

so,that mean i have to change my Audio Buffer Size to 1024 or 2048 samples,am i rite?

besides, the internal disk speed normally is 5400rpm...so i need to do my recording over the Firewire External Drive which is 7200rpm to get a hi speed spin for recording??am i rite?

i need your confirmation Jeemy!!hee...thanks buddy!!

yes change the buffer and do the other things i suggested.

the internal disc should be ok as long as you have no plugs engaged. if not, a 7200rpm fw drive on a seperate bus to your interface - ideally 800 if the interface is on 400, or vice versa, is the next step.

you aren't syncing multiple digital devices so there is no clocking going on, leave it at internal.

wow man...you really help me so much!!
i think everything will be fine now..

now my setting is:

Audio Buffer Size - 1024samples
Uncheck lower latency
Clock Source - Mac
Audio Priority - Very High
24bit 44.1 Recording Project
Record to External Firewire H.Dirve
6 tracks at once

What else s'ld i consider on setting?

below is my routing:
All Mics and Instrument line into Firepod audio interface, from the Firepod line out(Ballance Jack) to my Mixer line in Channel for performance purpose!!

any problem on that routing?

thanks,
Ray
