THe more input you want the moe expensive the card is going to be. I am in the same boat as you I want a sound card for my mixer. What I found that gave pretty much what I wanted for a good price and had good specs and Driver support was the Delta 1010 or the 1010LT, this will give you 8 in and outs the other being midi, or XLR. I know it's not 12 channel but given the price maybe it's what you might be looking for. Hope this help. |

The MOTU 24 I/O is just the ticket you're looking for. 24 analog inputs with a 2 track stereo monitor output. It will run you just under $1000 US and require that you plug in a PCI card into your computer.
The other excellent way to go would be with something like the Alesis 24HD hard disk recorder. It can be had for about $1300 US and it has removable hard disk drives, which is greatly working on multiple different projects. Then with its FireWire disk adapter you can dump the entire 24 track session into your computer storage hard drive, mixing ITB and burning your project directly to CD. You would still need a multitrack compatible software program like Adobe Audition, Sony Vegas, et al..
You're just not going to be able to multitrack anything on the cheap because the above I have mentioned is about as inexpensive as you can go on a professional level.
Multi-track tracking broad

The other option would be something like a RME Fireface or digi002 with an ADAT I/O. Add someething like a Focusrite OctoPre or B ADA8000 and you've got at least 16 analog I/O's. |
