Hey guys im new here and in the world of movie and soundtrack making. I helped a friend of mine with a short that he made and did the sound for him. Everything was all done and then he burns it to dvd to play on a tv. The audio he said "rumbled the tv". I figured it were just too many low frequencies on the soundtrack. So cut 80hz by about 8 db and it finally stopped, although sounded very thin (which makes sense). I believe the factor is that I limited it to 0.3 dB. Some one said that audio for tv should be limited to 6 dB. Is this true? If not, whats the reason for the rattling?
Thanks a lot. |

Not true, in your case. Perhaps this person is refering to 6 on the PPM scale aka -10dBFS. I'd limit to 0.1... 0.3 is kinda an irational number. To get rid of unwanted low stuff i'd use a hi pass filter (not a low shelf EQ) with say a 12dBperoctave slope, maybe at 80Hz. You should be able to stop any rumbling of tv's without making it sound thin---- all things being equal of course---/./.,./.,/./../, .;'\;;,.,;\,.;\,.; : ) |
