I reciently aquired 4 JVC KY-210 cameras, and want to put a cross screen ( star ) filter in front of the lens. The camera has filters behind the lens, but thats a different story. I am trying to figure out what the ID threads/size is for a filter. I guess I could drag it out to a camera store, but I was wondering if anyone knows a way to ID the size by numbers. It's a Fuginon HZ 510-U and a 512-U the number on one of the lenses is 310819. There are no numbers on the front of the lens ( body ) the way many lenses have
I have the service manual, but couldn't find this info |

While the simplest and at least expensive ways to create a star effect filter is to simply place a piece of window bug screen, over the front of the lens. This will give you beautiful 4 point stars. If you want 8 point stars, use 2 pieces of screening rotated 45° from one another. It works great and you'll be amazed.
Starlight Starbright, keep those bugs away from me!

I am still trying to find the filter size for these lenses. I put a digi verneer caliper in the ID threads in front of the lens and it reads 71.3 mm. In researching filters, normal filter sizes are 67mm, then it jumps to 72mm, then 77mm. Should I go with the 72mm, or are there in between sizes ? |

I do believe you'll find that a 72 mm filter is what you need?

These were made in teh 80's I believe?
Usually, the filter siez is clearly indicated by a number next to a small circle with a line crossing its center. You sure you don't such a number?
There are no in between sizes.
Look at the Cokin PRO filter holder and their star filters. The holder is a plastic piece that can hold up to 3 filters and a hood. The holder itself has not threads, instead it uses an adaptor ring. Both the holder and ring are very cheap.
Once attached, it allows you to use Coking's circular filters and rotate them to taste. It will also allow you to use any rectangular filter (up to three).
Look at this kit from B&H in NY:
