I have a Tascam Dp-01fx 8 track recorder. I was Recording the other day and when we plugged the guitar up, We heard a loud cliking noise in our output speakers. Then my display screen showed that i was getting a large source of feedback or some sort of noise on my right speaker. So i unplugged the guitar but nothing happend. Turned out the screen was froze and when i switched it off, and tried to turn it back on, all you can see is two dotted lines across the display screen.

Does Any one Know What Happend To It?

Crutch, I hope you mean that when you plugged the guitar in, it was just the guitar and not the output from the amplifier?? Either way, I would assume your recorder features 1/4" instrument inputs?? Although your descriptions sound disastrous to me?? You might need to contact the factory about this one??

yes, we already had the output speaker plugged up, from the output jack.
we plugged the guitar up, and our guitarist played for a minute. then thats when we heard the clicking noise. and yes it has 1/4 instrument cable inputs.

Crutch, you still have not indicated, how you get the guitars sound, from the amplifier/speaker combination into your sound card?? Are you using a microphone? How do you get the guitar, from the amplifier, into the sound card? What output from the guitar/amplifier/speaker combo do you use to feed the sound card?

Bottom line is, you can plug the guitar directly into the sound card, bypassing the amplifier and speaker combination. Otherwise, if you are taking the amplifier output, which would normally feed a speaker and are plugging that into the sound card, NO GOOD! Even if you're still feeding the guitar amplifier speaker, you can not be feeding that amplifier into the 1/4" input on your sound device. If you do that, of course you would get the "clicking" because you are grossly overloading a low level instrument/line input, not a speaker! Just because you have a 1/4" amplifier output jack, doesn't mean, you can feed a low level instrument/line input.

If you could elaborate further.....

im not quite sure what your saying.
when i plug my guitar up i just put it in the INPUT 1. and then i plug and amplifier up in the output slot. and the guitar would come out of the amp.

but now it wont even turn on because of whatever it did.

I finally figured out what Crutch is doing wrong.

You have plugged your guitar into your mixer/recorder input 1. Then you're taking the output of the mixer/recorder, into the guitar amplifier input. Which of course is plugged into the amplifier's speaker box.

The method you are trying will of course cause distortion as the output of your mixer generates too much output to feed the guitar amplifiers input. That ain't the way to do it. Other methods are required to try and accomplish what you're trying to do.

You mention nothing about any kind of monitors other than your guitar amplifier speaker. That's not the way to go.

Elaborate further please
