Hey, I was wondering if there was anybody in here that knew of a house that could clean up some dialogue for a film. I used wireless mics and I have a bit of interference going on that I'd like to take out. I've used a few tricks myself and it sounds better... but I was hoping to find someone who does this one thing for a living (and thus does it much better than I can). Perhaps a forensics expert?

It would be better if this person was in Chicago.

Thanks,
Schmüdde

Radio frquency static? Mic rubbing against clothing? Vinyl record cleanup software should help. Also consider inserting bits from other takes that don't have the interference. Other than that I'd bring the talent back in for some ADR. This is why paying for a good soundman during filming is every bit as important as hiring a good DP or getting the right actor. Pay now or pay later.

Thanks for the responses guys!

I haven't thought about Vinyl cleanup software. I'll see if this helps. It's a good idea considering the types of problems I'm having.

I've interspliced a lot of other takes... and the talent is scheduled to do ADR all this week.

check this out

http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/soundtrackpro/

click on the tour. Pretty incredible. This should reduce your clean-up time. I don't think you can buy this as a stand-alone, but it's usually bundled with Final Cut Studio, A/V editing software. If you don't have a mac, perhaps you can find someone with one and this program.

Couple of people told me Apple is dropping Soundtracpro? Anyone else hear this? I opened it a couple of times and it wouldn't do what I wanted.

Regardless of whether or not they will drop the product, I think it works quite well. I just got the latest version with final cut pro. Used it on a crappy video I made in a very noisy environment using the, also crappy, camera mic. It won't make a bad recording sound good, but it will take out the unwanted noise floor and reduce pops, click and hums. If you can get your hands on the latest soundtrack pro tutorial it would be best.

Basically open sound track pro. then open your audio file file>open>(audiofile) . There's the track. If you want to remove an entire noise floor, sample a portion w/o dialogue by draggin your mouse across to highlight. Then go to process>Set Noise Print. Now click on the track so the highlight disappears. Go back to Process>Reduce Noise. Hit play within this window and use the sliders to adjust.

For pops and clicks, power noise, etc, just hit the Analyze tab on the mid-upper LH column. selct the check boxes you want to fix. Hit analyze at the bottom of the column. A list of of potential unwwanted noises appears. If you want to fix 'em all, just hit 'fix all" - also at the bottom of this column.

If someone wants to post a noisy sample - I'll give it a whirl. - a 10 or 15 sec aiff would be ideal. (No this isn't a plug)
