would a resonator panel still be an effective low freq. bass trap with the following layout
(membrane, 3 inch airspace, 2 inch 703, rigid backing) using 1X6 frame

Not enough info for even a wild guess - things that affect frequency of a panel resonator are the weight of the resonator panel and the depth of the box - the amount of fill affects the width of the absorption curve; thicker fill, wider range. Thinner fill, more "peaky". Also, the fill needs to NOT contact the front resonator panel if you're building a true panel bass trap, otherwise the front panel is damped too much and you get a REALLY wide frequency range but very little absorption.
Example - 1/4" plywood membrane over a 6 inch air gap is around 85 hZ - again, thicker absorbent inside makes the trap less peaky, therefore less noticeable. Exact tuning will never be what is calculated, so you need to put the front panels on with screws and foam tape under. That way you can "tune" the trap by tweaking screw tension... Steve |
