Hi All!

My garage studio build out is going nicely, almost all the drywall is up.

Inside dimensions are 18'l x 16'w x 10'h. I've done double wall const. Inner wall is 3/4 plywood, & 2 layers of 5/8 drywall (green glue between both layers).

I have free access to 16 Auralex LENRD foam wedge corner fill bass traps. That's enough to cover the 4 corners of my room floor to ceiling. I have been planning on using 2' x 4' x 4" panels across the the corners of the room for bass trapping.

My question is, should I put the LENRDs in the corners as well as using the panels? Will this give me additional low end control? Other ideas?

Thanks for your help!

I have heard this very application - FG panels over LENRDs - in two different rooms (one control room and one "booth"), and seen measurements from both. I can vouch for it as being an excellent approach to low end control. Thumbs Up I'm beginning to believe that it's a stellar combination.

Yes, it is extra bass control. If it is free there is no question. If you have to pay there would be a cost/benefit question.

Absolutely. Do it.

I have some awesome data from RAL utilizing this same type of "nested" panel (in your case, LENRD) application with outstanding Low Frequency absorption data.

If it's free, YES,.........even if it isn't "free", YES. Thumbs Up

What if you didn't have access to free LENRDs, I'm wondering would bags of fluffy insulation (still compressed in the plastic - Ethan Winer mentions using these in corners on his site) in the corners behind panels be as effective?

Hi All!

Wow, thanks for the info. Data from RAL, excellent. I thought this might be a good way to go, now I'll definately be doing this.

Thanks so much to everyone here, there is so much great info and comaraderie.

You bet. The more absorbing "stuff" you have in the corner, the better. Always.

Hi Ballz,

If I may...

Absorption coefficients are what is important here:

http://www.bobgolds.com/AbsorptionCoefficients.htm

For the bass traps you will need stuff with higher density than fluffy. Fluffy may be good for upper range but for the low freq. it wont make miracles.

Superchunk design from OC 703 (or similar density) for broadband/bass absorbers is something different.

http://forum.studiotips.com/viewtopic.php?t=536&start

But if you already have plenty of fluffy, compress and use it. It's better than nothing in the corners.

Regards

I figured if it's still compressed in the packaging it is higher density than once it is "unleashed" and morphs into fluffy stuff. Thanks for the links and the replies - you fountains of experience and knowledge you!
