If you choose a high end pro audio CD recorder or player, they all should be accurate. You seem to be confused. CD players are not really designed or meant to be judged for being musical and lively in sound because that has much more to do with the music that was recorded and is on the CD and/or the monitors you are hearing through, than it does the player.
I don't know about all the features of the units you mention, but I know that the Tascam has DSD recording and playback capability that many feel is more accurate and thereby more musical and lively in sound. |

I think AudioGaff explained it fairly well, actually. If the source isn't good, how can you tell?
The problem with your question is that someone would have had to have used all those to give an educated answer. Short of finding a "product shootout" comparison in Recording Magazine, or some other publication, may not be a lot of folks who have experienced them all. It may be too much of an overarching question.
Now, you may ask, "how does this player's scheme compare to this other one?", or "has anyone had experience with any of these, and what are your thoughts". Then, you could get feedback from anyone who has used one or more.
Maybe search the Internet for each product to see if there is more feedback available from other sources about each. May even be other forums that have compared two or more. Search this forum for each model, to see if there is anything here. See if any red flags are raised in terms of reliability, service, tech support, etc.
Compare specs, though sometimes specs aren't completely accurate. Yet, most of those are high quality units from reputable manufacturers, so the specs should be fairly reliable.
It's probable that any of them would not be a weak link in your system. It's understandable that if you are going to plop down that kind of money, that you want the best. There may be two or three that float to the top. All else possibly being "subjectively" equal, it may even come down to the manufacturers' service and support reputation.
Perhaps completely rule out everything but a couple, and then go from there? May be no quick answers, though folks here try to help as much as possible. You are definitely not wrong to ask. Any of us would be scouring the web for hours and hours compliling information, if we had the level of concern that you have about comparing numerous products. This is a start. Now, it's up to you to do a bit of homework Seems you may have even narrowed it down to the Tascam and the EMT. Any thoughts on those two, anyone?
And keep in mind that it's possible that sound quality is completely subjective and open to interpretation from any two or more people.
Once you've narrowed it down, and decide which to get, just make sure you know the return policy in case you're not satisfied.
Hope this helped,
