1 - Look around for Satan, because I've obviously gone straight to Hell.

If no luck with 1, then I promptly move on to step 2.

2 - Go to Wal-Mart, open a new Wal-Mart Charge Account. Purchase strong, high-quality, expensive rope and new edition of "Suicide for Dummies" and wish the management luck on getting their credit card payment from me post-mortem.

3 - Practice the art of a hangman's knot.

4 - Find a strong support beam and a short stool.

5 - Tell my wife and kid that I love them.

6 - Swing.

I'd take the deal and do it... for the sake of being alive and having 50k in my pockets (I'm only 18 though), but I don't producing anything... why refuse something if you don't have anything else

I remember back when I was in school and had all these dreams of being a big time engineer/producer recording only the best bands in the coolest studios. A teacher asked us if any of us would want to record muzak. Of course all of us said "No Way!" Who would want to record that swill. But they pointed out that tons of it is written and recorded every year and there was money to be made there.

After not becoming a highly sought after recording engineer and not having Yes and Rush calling me every year to engineer their next epic album and after driving a desk for about 10 years, I would take happily that job and it would be the best damn sounding Kenny G album ever.

Kenny G, AKA Kenneth Gorelick, used to play Miles Davis/John Coletrane type stuff.

He wasn't very special at it. He didn't suck, but he was not unique at all.

He explored his own sound, and that is what how we got the Kenny G Fuzak sound. (Fuzak is my word -- Fusion + Muzak = Fuzak.

My only Fuzak song:

I think i would take the job and get therapy later.

I guess if you are a big-time recording engineer you can pick and choose what you want to do without thought on money or anything else.
Me, i am just a guy with a few mics,a single rack of gear, a bit of know-how and a passion for music (even if i am not passionate about this music).

Besides, it would be an oppertunity?

Well, you'd probably make more than 50k so why not? I wouldn't mind having 6 figures in my pockets

I would record Kenny any time. First, hes a BIGTIME professional and I believe that the egotistical crap that sometimes goes hand-in-hand with artists that have a budget would be non-existant.....Second, the production budget would get you some nice toys to deal with....Third, hes a really good and avid golfer so the hours would be really easy as well as the 'recreational' round of golf everyday..... And finally, I happen to know someone whos worked with him and this person simply states that hes a kick in pants fun-loving fellow who is focused and dedicated to the art that he has brought to this business. The guy makes millions.....Isnt that success?

You can can have all your suffer-for-arts-sake, overhyped, undertalented artists.... I like working with the real PROS!

Hell yes, I'd take the job - assuming this little thing called a day job wasn't an issue.

I don't need to like the music to work with it. Recording folks with talent is (in my experience so far) a LOT more rewarding than trying to make good music with hacks.

But that's the point of the thread.

While it can't be argued that he is successful at what he chose to do (awards, millions, etc.), many professionals and laypeople alike consider him a cheesy hack.

But I think it actually took guts (or something) for him to say, hey, bebop isn't me. I need to find my voice.

"They Killed Kenny, those bastards!!!!"
I would record Kenny G gladly and why not? I might even start humming his songs cuz they get stuck in your head!!! The music is not my favorite but for the experience and the money, it sure is worth it.
Thumbs Up
