FriedRock your question may indicate that you have fried brains? You're recording and engineering expertise is already superb. It certainly sounds like you know what you're doing and you're not using junky equipment. Better stuff? 1176's, LA 2's, API microphone preamps and equalizer's, Neve microphone preamps and equalizer's, U87's, etc. But why bother? You already have your chops down with what you are using. Tell us more how you went about making these superb recordings and with what kind of equipment you are utilizing to make them?

You get an A + in my book

haha thanks, its pretty much all i want to do after college, im only 17 so i hope to have a name for myself by that time... some of my setup

Monitors- Event 20/20's
Vocals/ Guitar/ Overhead- AKG Perception 200
Overhead- AKG C1000
Firepod
Some cheap Behringer mixer
DBX 2231 eq/compressor

and ofcourse, very precise mic setup

i really do have to make full use of my equipment because there is obviously not that much of it.

Very nice mix. Do you play in the band as well?

I like the monster scream in tact for wit. I hate a whole song done like that, but added in the way you did is genius. Very Happy

Where did you learn to mix?

I absolutely LOVE this stuff. Great job . Theres too much lowmids in the mix but other than that its really really good. (its masking the vocals a touch)

Dont let this stop you from being better.

yea lows are always kind of a guess... i love my monitors but i always have to treat my mix because of the huge wide open room I am mixing in, which is also why my bass tones are never good. The 4 songs i mixed were done over about a years time, so you can tell the earlier ones werent recorded as well as the later.

I get alot of my influence from a guy named Mike Bailey (www.myspace.com/kingsdown), (www.myspace.com/johnnyrocketmusic) for some references.

Yep...Low mids are really hard to get that clarity and punch ....The 'BIGS' all get it, but then the rooms provide most of that naturally at tracking.

The best thing about your project is the fact that you are willing and able to recognize the lacks as well as the haves in your mixes and seem eager to grow with this. Its a shame that others of your agegroup arent so willing. Its a learning curve, as you have already figured out, and you'll never get any better if you arent willing to find out why and how to do things.

You seem very grounded in this regard. Congratulations and well-done.

I would like to add this....the solutions to a problems arent always solvable with cash. Perhaps in your case, better monitors would help....BTW, I never recommend monitors without knowing that the person listening to them will benefit from this change....its so subjective and not everyone has an ear thats trained enough to fully grasp the differences between adequate monitors and good to great monitors.

Perhaps in your case, the listening environment for your mixes needs some work. It will certainly help you in fleshing out any frequencies giving you the business on a regular basis.

Guitars sound a little weak, maybe its just me.
I love how tight you have the kit though.
Maybe play with the eq and panning so you can bring the rhythm guitars up a little without cluttering the sound space.

AWesome job though, what gear are you using?
