Hello,
I like to use a digital speaker management system like for instance the Xilica XP4080 or DBX DriveRack in my active dipole home hifi setup. Preferable I like to connect the CD-player digitally to the digital speaker management system.
But how do I do volume control (gain) when there is no Mixing console, but just a CD-player? I cannot find a digital speaker management system with easy gain control for all output channels at once. Does someone know a solution to this problem?
Regards,
Jeroen

They are not supposed to have it... now are they?
Typical setup is.
Signal source-> Pre-amp/mixer -> LMS/DSP/DSMS -> Effect amp -> Speakers.
Without a pre-amp/mixer you only have some gain knobs left?. Talk about cutting the signal chain
(I tried a Cd-player straight into an effect amp before, WAOW! What a difference in dynamics and PUNSH) |

I understand, but how is this done with the AES-EBU input on the Speaker Management System? Has the pre-amplifier than a digital volume control?
Do you know pre-amplifiers who take a digital signal of a source, have digital volume control and than give a digital signal to the Speaker Management System? Or is there always A/D and D/A in the chain?
What are anyway the best Speaker Management Systems < 1500 euro? I see promising things from Xilica, Rane, DBX, e.g. but what is the brand to go for? |
