If you're still interested in checking-out the 797 Audio CR998, just let me know when a good 2 weeks is good for you and where to send it... Also, when I get my SPA modded version from SPA, are you interested in checking that out too? If so, maybe I'll just have them send it to you... What would be another two weeks or so?
Anyhow, just let me know.
Weston |

SPA's modding one of the Beijing mics? Interesting. I'm surprised they are starting with something that cheap, although I suppose if they are going to replace a good number of parts, the thing is a Neumann ripoff... How did this come about?

quote:
Originally posted by Recording Engineer:
If you're still interested in checking-out the 797 Audio CR998, just let me know when a good 2 weeks is good for you and where to send it... It came about by me thinking the 797 Audio CR998 being a good enough base... But what do I know? So, I had always said if I was ever going to spend the money on having a mic modded, I'd go to the one and only pioneering mad scientist... Obviously, I contacted Stephen at SPA and told him about my "great idea"...
Well, at first, I think he was a little reluctant; and by the time I got off the phone with him, was I too from the massive amount of education just within that little phone call! BUT, he encouraged me to send it his way so he and Tony could put it through their "trials and tribulations" (tests) to see if the CR998 was a good enough base to make it worth while.
Well, it was decided by Stephen and Tony (at least then, I'm not sure now) that it was worthy. What they actually found and what their opinion of it as stock, I'll leave it for them to say if they care or decide to or if they'd actually ever do a similar thing, I do not know.
Of course, I have unquestionable faith in Stephen and Tony that even if it is now not worth while to them, it SURE is to me... And I haven't even heard it yet! Then again, I don't have an SPA 3 micron U87 sitting in my mic closet either... So what do I know? |
