Ready Traps

Just wanted to let you know the outcome of my Ready traps....

While I found the service a little unorganized, the product is excellent. I managed to bag and install my bass traps in 2 hours. Fantastic and easy, and already I can hear a difference! I have 21 more traps to go. So far so good. I am happy with the product!

Anyone else tried their stuff?

It's nice that you gave a follow up of your experience with ReadyTraps.
If something happened that wasn't good it is good to share that.
It can only help to improve things.
But it's very nice, that you also give the positive side.

I know the products, and they're very good quality.

I also reply here to balance the recent subjective/unjust (spoken and implied) comments from their competitors.

Success with your project.

Do you know/understand the word implied (which I entered in my post)?
Your whole attitude, what you didn't do and what you did confirmed RealTraps words and attitude. You even indirect triggered one of Ethan's posts using yours as a handle to build upon.

Did you notice I did NOT call you or anyone else by name in this thread? So why do you respond? Or does "implied" gets meaning to you?

This goes wrong again, after a rightly removed thread, if I further reply to this. You will NOT trigger this again.

Eric,

My comment from the start, in that thread was about 2 things. One was to clarify about our products as I wanted to make sure the readers knew and also my experience about seeing the Real Traps 3 times. That’s it. Which, BTW the person posting wanted to knew about the Real Traps and the value of them.
If Ethan reacted to that then so be it.

OK so after all that, I am still getting peaks at 80Hz, 160Hz and 200Hz. The rest has smoothed out. It does sound significantly better, but will I be able to reduce my 80Hz issues?
the Room is 13' by 13' by 7.8'.

Without changing one of the dimensions from 13', you're not likely to get much improvement there. Double modes at 83 Hz...ouch. It could be worse! It could be at 200 Hz...but then the room would be pretty tiny....

lOl I figured as much, of well I will enjoy bass heavy mixes, that sound fine else where. C'est La vie....

Further Updates:

I added another 4" to the corner panels with no success. Finally I gave in and I used a EQ to notch out the three problem frequencies. Although not ideal, it does clean up the problem areas enough to mix with.

Just a couple of pseudo stoopid ideas/things to think about maybe trying.

Like Cucco said... 80/160 are the room dimensions, but the 200 seems like it might be related to the rest of the construction/structure... almost like there's something getting set-up with a standing wave from outside the room.

I noticed you didn't have any trapping up high in the corners behind your monitors.

You probably are a bit tight there for space, but it might be worth at least trying a couple of traps there to see what your get... by raising the bags up higher and putting a row on the front wall/floor corner.

I noticed too that your ceiling/wall corner junction of the room is already angled by the rafters. I'm curious if adding some insulation/density between the bags and the wall might help with any resonance that these surfaces might be producing. e.g. physically touching the wall surface to the bag.

Maybe even going in the crawlspace on the side walls and adding a layer of gypsum in the stud cavities could help with any resonance that your gypsum could be adding. Or even adding some rolls of insulation in the crawlspaces?

Just hate to hear that you're having to notch that many frequencies with an EQ.

But I understand your frustration... at some point you gotta just say enough is enough and learn to deal with what you have... then compensate and conquer!

Thanks Max! Your right the upper ceiling angles are hard to mount 4' by 2' by 4" panels in, but I did try some quick tests by having people hold the panels in the corners while I sweep the frequencies. All though it was crude, the test did not show any signs of further reduction in the 80Hz, 160Hz, 200 Hz ranges.
I will try a few more ideas out. But please keep the ideas coming!

This page describes bass-weighted pink noise, but you could instead play sine waves at the frequencies you know cause problems.
