New one, help with guitar sounds.

Here's a new song we've been trying to get done. Right now it's just the guitars and drums. I feel like the guitars lack something but If I have to I will leave them the way they are until I can have an experienced engineer work with the sound.

What do you guys think? Remember there isn't bass or vocals yet, its all clean, non-compressed guitars with absolutely no filtering yet (effects).
oh yeah and the end is messed up somehow... lol

I thought the guitars were a good start. It needs the drums more up front in the mix.....yeah I know its still early, but if you're gonna be doing a lot of quick and complete changes in feel,speed, and style, the drums MUST lead the way.

With some inventive mixing and editing involving different verbs,echoes and EQ settings, a nice clear and heavy bass sound played tight with the drums, you should have something good.

It's great stuff.

I can't wait to hear it completed.

As a guitar player the only thing I am missing is attack. Like when the pick hits the string, that initial attack, that seems to be lost.

Is that what you mean by missing something?

If you over do it and make the guitars too fat it leaves no room for other stuff and you can get a bunch of nothing. Less is more.

You'll see how good it sounds with a nice tight fat deep bass with as davedog said tight with the drums. The guitar might jump out more with a little EQ.

the drums do sound fake. but they still need to be brought up more in the mix. theyre too quiet.

Yes, the drums are sampled through reason for now. We dont have the proper room to record a live kit, even though we know enough about recording to take on the challenge. That, and our drummer doesnt have an acoustic kit ! (he has $6k td-20s for now)

We actually plan on taking it to a producer at one of the better studio's around here to have it mixed and mastered after we get all the tracks layed down (vocals, backing vocals and bass). I wont do any compression, effects or anything else until we have a professional environment to work with. (having an experienced producer helps too) Wink

Anything else as far as guitars go?

I'm totally liking the track. Besides the mixing that is. but when it's done that's gonna sound sweet. LATE!

Ok here's an updated version, we have everything tracked except the vocals.

Nothing is mixed/compression/ or has effects yet so its just a rough mix to take to the studio. THANKS!

Getting there, I'm liking it.

Keep working it.

Boomy bass guitar, that needs tightening up and EQ. Cymbals need more highend and space around them if that's the right explanation.

Yeah, the bass needs to be rolled off at around 150hz, the guitars need EQ and compression. The drums need a little work, vocals will need work too.

The list goes on and on but we will be paying good money for some experienced hands and ears to mix and master it for us.
