HELP!!Should I money on pre's or mixer?

I am new to recording. I'm recording a 4 piece Beatleish group To ADAT. Here is my dilema. I have an Alesis 24 board, C1 mike, several 57's Blue Max etc. I was going to purchase a Presonus MP20 and possibly a JoemeekVC-3Q for better preamps.(Most recording will be done as the early Beatles did with minimal vocal and embelishment overdubs). I recently recovered an old EV BK-1242 mixer from a pile of trash. It powers up but needs professional cleaning. Should I put my money into the EV mixer or the MP20 and Joemeek? Are the preamps on the EV as good as Mackie? Thanks, Don

My vote would be for either preamp - ahh, I don't know about the EV, though - sounds like a dead end.<p>Tony
