Hey, Justin. It's Kevin from Springfield (ex-Faatherton). I dig the new song, brother -- your production techniques just keep getting better with each new piece I hear. Those guitars on "Falling Apart" are dripping with character.
The single-coil guitars were my favorite extract sonically from "Andrea," and everything else seems mixed accordingly. My only real critique is from a songwriting perspective: the lyrical content and delivery at the beginning evoke Weezer's "No One Else" in my mind, and then "No Other One" immediately after. If this was intentional and/or cheeky I apologize for not catching it, but I thought I'd address it. |

Hey Kevin, good to hear from you. Yeah, "No Other One" was a large influence on Andrea. I just think the idea of a guy being completely stuck on a girl with massive issues is a great background for a rock song. I have written several songs on this general premise. Most people have probably been in a relationship where their friends say "this is a mistake, that person is not a good idea, weird, psycho, using you etc...", but you go for it anyway. It's kind of pathetic and beautiful, but it's a real feeling. Anyways, those songs always made me think. Glad you liked it though. Thanks.

My thoughts:
Outstanding quality. I loved the vocals and the drums especially. The production and mix are far superior to hundreds of indie recordings I have listened to in the past several months.
I felt that the song itself was lyrically weak, but the groove of the song more than compensated for that. The biggest cringe that I had was the electric guitar sound on the solo - call and response part. It sounded to sawwy/synthy for the "old school" sound of the rest of the song. I would have preferred to hear a classy overdriven tube sound instead. Just my thoughts.
Keep up the good work. |
